Waxed Denim, anybody?

So, I've been contemplating buying a set of leather overpants for my morning rides to work. I start work at 6, and it can be rather chilly in those early morning hours. My leather jacket keeps me warm, as does my full face and gloves. However, the one part that still suffers are my legs.
I stumbled across something pertaining to waxed denim, and wondered if this may be a decent cold weather alternative to leather. Looks like Wrenchmonkees are jumping into the fray, so I thought this might be moto-friendly.
Anybody here have any experience/insight on this?
 
I've worn rain over pants down to about freezing, worked great on my Monster and my Nighthawk. When it got to 17 F, I had to wear snow pants. $80 for a Fly rain set, $60 for the snow pants.
 
Never heard of the waxed stuff, for chilly rides I wear Flannel lined blue jeans. work pretty well @ 40 degrees.
 
Flannel lined, cool. How are they for blocking the wind? I must live in a bubble. Never heard of these, either.
 
If you're looking for any sort of abrasion resistance, denim isn't going to do the job.

I have a cheap pair of cordura overpants - leatherup.com has a lot of them, but don't expect quality for the price - great wind resistance, and some have provisions for impact protection.
 
Right on. The cordura is pretty good for that.

I also hate maintaining waxed stuff.
 
The wax denim would be a temporary compromise, since what I really want are a pair of overpants with side zippers and snaps, so that I can wear my work clothes, underneath, and get in and out of the overpants without doffing me boots. Regardless, it's gotta block that cold morning road wind.
The wax jeans wouldn't be easy on/easy off, but they SHOULD cut wind AND it'd be cheap enough to tide me over, cheaper than anything I could purchase, separately, ya know?
 
Years ago I had a Barbour jacket and pants. Waxed cotton as the English called it. I00% waterproof and windproof. But you didn't dare go near anything for the first six months of ownership. Anything you touched would instantly get a black smear. As I remember they weren't overly warm but thy did keep the water out..
 
I have my dad's old waxed cotton Belstaff jacket - that can be maintained with neatsfoot oil rather than wax. You might be able to do likewise with denim.
 
I'm impressed with the riding warmth and toughness of my Duluth Trading fire hose material khaki jeans - cost too. Can also get them fleece lined.
