XJ 650 Cafe racer
Just joined to see all the fancy projects all of you have started, and show my own. I'm here hoping to get inspiration and tips on how to complete my japanese version of a cafe racer.
I bought my bike in 2000 with 62k on the clock. It has now over 115k and is still running fine. I'll post two pictures, the first is a couple of weeks after i bought it, the second one represents the current state.
I have done the following modifications right away:
- removed fairing
- replaced steer
In the couple of years between purchase and where we are now i got the idea of making it as nekkid as possible, less is more so to say. It then came to my attention that that's just what a cafe racer is all about. Well almost, don't forget the sound; it must be loud.
So what i did next was:
- removed airbox and placed open filters, adjusting carbs accordingly
- replaced exhaust with open reflection pipes (we need E-mark in exhausts here; it has two E's: "Made in England")
- slammed in the front of my tank with a plastic hammer
- replaced dual rear shocks with mono shock from xz 550
- placed raask rear sets
- removed blinking lights
- removed right mirror
- placed a monoseat
- crafted the rear led light.
To do:
- mount mono seat properly
- put some cushing on the seat
- get a new battery
- finish paint and striping (black with old-white 3cm wide stripe offcentered)
