okay,

so im riding my 74 cb350 around and notice that my idle rpms are fluttering. so i decide to sync the old buggers and see if that fixes it. figure should take an hour tops and then im back on the road. so i go to sync em with my motion pro carb sync tool (wouldnt recommend) and sure enough a few are out of wack so then i try to adjust em and the rpms start shooting everywhere! i messed with the idle screw too to keep the rpms low and ran out of room to adjust! with my rpms at 5k i decided to pull the carbs and bench sync. then i realized that i didnt know the base carb for this model! i also checked/ adjusted floats (which were slightly high, still around 22 or 23 with spec at 21) im used to doing this on newer bikes if you cant tell.. plus vm carbs seem more difficult to me.. anyway.. i bench sync, check everything, spend another hour shoving them into the frame because honda decided to leave no extra room. then same old story.. crazy rpms on startup! mind that carbs were just dipped and cleaned. but for some reason now when i apply choke MY RPmS GO DOWN!! so i fool around with the sync screws a bit more and got the rpms to fall but it still dies when i apply the choke. havnt tried to ride it yet, i figured theres something simple im missing. i cant find a sync guide for these carbs anywhere! and honda wasnt very specific in their manual.. i need major help!! im so frustrated because its so simple but somethings not right here!!

THANKS ALLL!!

okay messed around a bit more. greased my throtle cables.. helped a little to get idle down. now i got white smoke from tailpipe on choke. but it goes away with choke off.. could be oil related as i just changed it and would expect a little condensation. i tried each carb individually but everytime i adjust one cylinder.. the rpms go crazy. so im stumped. i guess float height check is in order.. but where do i start with a sync? does anyone have a guide for syncing these keihen cb350 four carbs? im new to syncing vm carbs but totally understand cv carbs. lost help!!!

one thing at a time. make sure the cables work, but it uses a push/pull system, so you should be able to "push" the carbs shut with the throttle grip. Bench sync them first. This involves making sure the slides clear the carb body opening at the same time at WOT position. Once this is done, you are close. Close enough to run ok. THEN use the motion pro sync pro. Follow the directions on calibrating it first - must be done every use.

On VM carbs, syncing is the term used that refers to setting the slide positions equal to each other so when the throttle is opened, all are in the same position, opening at the same time.

It could be an air leak as well, I suspect. Hopefully you didn't burn a valve while running it severely lean (from the air leak). Eliminate one factor at a time and good luck

Did you sync the Motion Pro tool first? The Motion Pro Sync tools requires you to sync it first using the t adapter and 1 carb.
