Where abouts in Toronto are you?

Hey folks. Don from Toronto.

This year I picked up a 1984 CB550 Nighthawk. Not yet a cafe bike by any means. But I'm looking to get started on some of the basic repairs it needs to keep me riding reliably. I by no means am a wonder with mechanics, but I'm dying to learn all I can with this bike.

It runs great when the hydraulic clutch isn't leaking fluid. Which is project #1.

So I hope you guys are all ready for stupid questions, cause I'll have them.

What's up? I'm josh from Chicago. Thinking about buying a 77 cb750 and venturing into the world of cafe racers. I recently crashed on the highway and state farm is being a REALLY good neighbor and cutting me a nice check. I found a bike but have some questions first. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm no good at this whole forum thing.

Hey everyone,

I'm Pat from Montreal. To be honest I didn't know that cafe racer bikes even existed until a few days ago when I saw one parked across the street. I was immediately taken by the sleek look and astounding simplicity of it. Gas, brake, headlight, thats all a motorcycle should be :P no ABS or heated grips. I am looking for a bike to work on during the winter and I was wondering... whats the easiest bike to find parts for? I really don't wanna start a project just to find out that I need a part that I can only get from overseas, so I'm doing my homework before jumping into it.

Any advice would be a big help.

Tks

Welcome to the site man!

If you don't want to get parts from overseas, your options can be limited (what bikes are truly made in North America?). If you mean what parts can you find "mostly" local, any Honda CB / CL, Suzuki GS, or the Yamaha XS's would fit the bill. I don't know much about the Kawasaki bikes, but that may be another option.........

Pretty much any part can be found on eBay, and I tend to only order special replacement parts from the OEM source (like gaskets, specific bolts, etc).
