What are frames with titles worth?

I've got a line on a 1971 Norton Commando frame, with title, for $600. From the pictures, the frame is in decent shape, it includes the triples and oil tank. What does the collective think?

I think you are about right. Maybe $100 high, but I don't think you'll have trouble moving it.

...it really depends on how desirable the frame is (Norton Commando is in demand) and also, how hard is it to get a title in your respective state.

That price is low enough that it is a good deal for someone who wants to build a bike around it, and high enough that no one else is going to buy it and make any money re-selling it. They did their research.

Commandos of that era had an aluminum number plate riveted onto the steering head of the frame. The plate had the serial number and a date stamped on it which should match up more or less with the title. These plates are often sold brand new and un-stamped on Ebay.

It is too bad that the engine cases that match the title and frame have been lost, if at all possible I would try to inquire as to the history of the bike, maybe someone has those cases laying around.

A Norton Commando can be built up as a rider for a reasonable price if the builder does not get too fancy, I heard there were around 70,000 Commandos sold over several years, so parts are always up for sale somewhere at reasonable prices. A bike without matching numbers will never be something an investor or collector will pay top dollar for, so it will have to be a personal project and a labor of love, something someone puts together because they want to enjoy riding and are not worried about collector's items.

If you get it and build it up hit me up if you need any small parts, I have a lot of that stuff laying around left over from three Commandos I scrapped out back before they were worth anything.

Thanks, gents. If the frame is still there next week, I think I'll pick it up. Nortonguy, I'll hit you up later assuming the stars align correctly in the next few weeks.
