What's a CJ?

I'm one of the many looking to steal knowledge gained from the mistakes and hard work of others. Cheers!

I picked up this CJ360T in the late spring/early summer and have spent some time getting it back on the road. I'm in the tuning process right now, and will be replacing the grandlebars in the next couple weeks. I've never worked on a bike myself before, but it's been fun.

I originally had plans of doing a cafe build with this, but because of the rarity of the bike I've decided not to chop it all to hell. I hope to find a good deal on a titled frame for a cafe build over the winter. If anyone knows of one, please send it my way.

Wiki's entry for the CJ is just a redirect to the CB360, but that's probably my fault for implying that I don't know what a CJ is. That's actually the response I get from people when I tell them I have a CJ360.

The CJ, as opposed to the CB, was only imported for two years ('76, '77). They had five speed gearboxes, drum front brake and were kickstart only. The 2 into 1 exhaust was another distinguishing factor between the CJ and the CB. They came in only one color in the US, the red. Some had the orange stripe, some did not. All of the engine parts between a CB360T and a CJ360T are interchangeable, I believe.

An engine guard was also stock on the bike. This one came with a luggage rack as well, but their removal was the very first thing to happen on the bike.

I do believe you're correct, though I wouldn't have known without your mentioning it.

By the way, that frame looks amazing.

I'd be really interested to know how much that frame weighs, a CL frame (back tubes cut like mine pictured) weighs 23.25lbs.

I'll try to remember to weigh it when I take it all apart. I think it will depend on how I'm feeling at the time whether I chop the back or not. I've been going back and forth for weeks about it.

I've done enough to the mechanical/electrical parts of the bike for now, so I thought it was high time to move on to a bit of cosmetics. New bars, grips, levers and mirror. New turn signals front and back. A vast improvement.

I'm going to ride it like this for the few days left of our riding season, but I'm really looking forward to the winter rebuild.
