Wheel and tire question, BratStyle

Hello guys,

I'm working on a KZ650 1978, it's in pieces right now. First step to the project is obviously the wheels and tires. I want Firestone Delux, even though I read they suck performance wise (I don't give a damn about performance).

My KZ has a 18 x 2.15 wheel in the back (40 holes, drum brake)
The front is 19 x 1.85 i believe (40 holes, disk brake)

I'd like to have both wheels the same dimension, 18 inches x 2.15, I find it looks more balanced and is more appealing to the eyes.
I was able to find a rim identical to the original rear rim (at CWC Wheels), that I could have custom drilled to fit the front hub.

I have two questions.
1- The rim I would be getting is identical to the rear rim (18x2,15) which is smaller in diameter and wider than the original front wheel. As per my measurements, it should clear the suspension. Is there a problem in having both wheels basically the same width other than a possible slight loss in performance? What would you recommend?
2- I was thinking about the Firestone Delux 450 in the rear and 400 in front. They both would fit perfectly on the rim. My question is, should I go with a different size instead? Or, should I get them both the same size (let's say two 400)?

Ho I guess I could ask another question 3- Is there anything else I'm forgetting? I'm about to order so It's now or never..

Remember there will be no clearance issues with the fenders because I'll make them completely custom anyway to fit nicely around the tire. Also the rear fork will be modified (I'll add about 7cm in length - I like the look) so everything will clear no problem.
 
If you make everything clear everything else, you should be fine. As you've stated, this is intended to be all show, no go, so you don't care about any performance hits. The bike won't suddenly stop working when the front tire matches the rear tire.

I will say that you may need some thick skin going forward. Some people frown on "road dildos" and are vocal about it.

Those Firestone tires are SCARY to ride on. Do a search on this forum, you will find your answers. Look into a tire such as the Bridgestone spitfire or something similar. The firestones sure look the part, but they are for show only.

To be honnest i couldnt care less about what people think or say. Especially though guys on the internet...lol. I care about making my ride the way i want it. Ive done work on my car, and i get lots of thumbs up and also some hate but i really dont give a damn. Haters will keep hating. I sacrificed some performance, but i still drive it daily. I intend the same thing about the bike, and i know it will be nice when im done.

All im asking is some constructive answers to my original questions.

I hear ya. I'm stripping a GL1100 down and I get the GL Elite raving that it's ruining a perfectly good cruiser and the cafe elite whining that it isn't a true cafe. Can't please everyone, but you can try to please yourself.
 
If you know the rear rim is the one you want for the front what is the possibility of getting another rear wheel to take the rim from it is already drilled with the 40 holes?

The Firestones are tall tyres so you probably won't notice any difference with 18" front and back.
If your building bike for you, no problem, If your building it to sell to some sucker you will get flamed (and deserve it)
