wheel weight question

Hey now,

I pulled apart the wheels on my kz750 and it had these internal wheel weights installed. The rear rim has 3 holes in it, two for these weight, and the normal one for the value stem. Never seen these before. Anyone using these? Should I not reuse them? The tires were Firestones Champion 4.00-18, maybe they had to use them to balance them?

Those aren't weights - their 'rim locks'. Used to lock the tire in place on the rim, particularly useful when running low air pressure in off road situations or perhaps for drag racing applications etc. I have them on my XT500 rims that I'm using on my current project.

You can re-install them (new ones are still available) to fill the holes, or you could put a button-head socket cap bolt in there to fill the hole and not interfere with the innertube. You could also just leave the hole empty but crud will collect there and it leaves a vulnerable spot for something to happen.

Thought they were weights because of the numbers on them. I'll just reinstall them and get the wheels balanced.

The numbers (2.15) is the width of the rim they are used on.
