Where did the battery go?

Check out the ETX9 AGM battery.
6 1/2" long, 3 5/8" wide, 3 1/2" tall.
8 ampHr, 120 CCA.
Fits snugly under Benjie's cafe seat.

I'll be running kick start only, but with turn signals, and I'm going with something similar. Difference with me is that I'm mounting mine just above the swingarm. It doesn't look quite as clean, but it puts the small amount of extra weight in a better spot and the battery is low enough to not be too conspicuous. Also, I want to keep my cowl as a storage compartment. Function over fashion on this one in my case.

On a side note, I picked up a running bike to ride while rebuilding my 360. Let me know if you want to ride. I'm thinking of heading out this weekend if the weather holds.

Well, actually it's quite easy top use a capacitor with an alternator, but if revs drop too low the system fails to deliver enough electrons to keep it all running. My old Triumph had a magneto ignition and alternator for lights (no flashers). At idle the headlamp was yellow and flickered. If teh ignition was on that same circuit, it would probably have stalled.

So any 70's or 80's bike with battery powered ignition probably needs a battery. If you have an RZ350 or say GT500 with flywheel magneto system, you can probably get away with a capacitor.

Listen to SwapmeetLouie, his advice is solid. Theres also a guy who posted on the first page... think his name was Bong? Boing? Hmm, doesn't matter.

Anyway, he said that he'd run a motorcycle (albeit a small capacity one) with an electric start and full street lighting for a period of 12 months on a common 3Ah lead-acid battery without any kind of problems.

I would recommend a 3Ah as the very minimum if you have a bike 250cc or less and want to keep electric start, or a bike of any size and want to kickstart only. Bikes over 250cc I would recommend, based on experience, a 6Ah battery as the minimum for solid functioning with an electric start. Both those sizes will run stock street lighting and should prove reliable.

I can't comment on capacitors as I haven't ever retrofitted a bike with one.

I should have checked this sooner. Next time it's gonna be nice all weekend, hit me up and we'll go ride.

No worries, man. It was good riding though. The ABATE toy run was that weekend. Lots 'o' bikes. I'll PM you my number
