2 hours of this and I'm frustrated (but in a good way)

Where do these dowels on the crank go? (cb360)

A or B??

Thanks in advance everyone

BTW, i got a set of gaskets from DCC. Do i need to get anything to put on them before I torque down the cases?

Technically no. But it wouldn't hurt if you wanted to smear a very thin layer of gasket seal on the head gasket. I've always installed the base gasket dry and it's never leaked. Just make sure you have all the required o-rings in place.

Head gasket shouldn't have anything put on it, it's impregnated with something that is heat activated (that's why it has plastic covering in gasket set)

So, the gasket kit that I got from DCC doesnt have a gasket for the upper and lower crankcase. Should there be one or am I missing something (as usual)?

Hondabond. It comes in a tube. Clean mating surfaces as good as possible. brake cleaner then acetone. DO NOT substitute carb cleaner, as it contains lubricants. apply Hondabond as thin and evenly as possible. I used a 1/4 inch paint brush to smear it on. its made kinda runny, so you can get it thin. You dont want much of a bead to squeeze out inside the case once torqued. Same w the head and head cover. Thin and even is the secret.

I just rebuilt my 360 a couple months ago.
Before you assemble the cases there is a mod you can make to the oil passages. Recommended by PJ, Frogman and maybe Sonreir. Also a clutch mod...but thats later.
link to my engine build...sorry you have to sift through some BS to get to the good info.

Cylinder studs. The two rear outside ones have little galleries right at the bottom and the oil for the HEAD goes up the hole that they go into.
JESUS CHRIST! I dont even want to know how you guys know this shit!!!! LOL (sigh) I am getting overwhelmed!!!
but, I will get em drilled. Thankyou frogman. and PJ...(for being the vauge-est man in the world!)

Oh, drill oil holes in top case to 1/16" (or is it 5/32", I forget? ;D )
Bigger by 1/32" than they are now ::)
LOL does it show I am getting overwhelmed ? Im sorry guys please bear w me...and hang in there.

Finnigan, after I completed assembly and before actually starting the engine... To confirm oil flow. I used my 1/2 inch Dewalt drill to spin engine. I got really good oil flow to the top end.

AND, LOL, I am not going to take over your build thread...But...
Originally I had planned to use STP as my assembly lube. Swivel, recommended NOT using STP, so I got the Zpaste cam assembly lube from Eastwood.com. Besides the cam, I used it on piston pins and piston skirts also. But NOT on cylinder walls or rings.

ANd your cam chain tensioner bolt has 2 springs on it. Make sure you have this installed properly before assembling cases. I missed one and had to disassemble to install.
Here is link to Complete 360 tensioner setup. Info Not in manual. Scroll down til you find it.

The two springs are 15 & 16

Wow thanks Trek, I installed the 2 springs last night but I had no idea there were oil mods..I'm gonna have to read your thread pretty thoroughly tonight to get an idea of what needs to be done. Looks a little intimidating. As for the ZPaste, is that only for the cam and piston skirts?

Ok Trek, PJ and Frogman after reading Trek's blog a few times over I'm still a little confused

I'm widening (exactly how many) oil channels in the top case but am not exactly sure which ones

I'm drilling (exactly how many?) oil channels into the clutch housing

Am I missing anything? Does anyone have pics of exactly where they should be that are not in Trek's build thread?

Oil hole mod is two holes. One on either side. They are small...need to be 1/32" larger. Sorry I dont remember sizes. I used the dremel to drill these. it fit pretty decent So, I didnt have to remove stud.

clutch, #7 drill bit maybe ?, just so it fits between the outside cog teeth nicely...PJ chamfered his holes w dremel & 1/4 inch de-burring bit...I did too, monkey see monkey do.

I put a thick coat on cam bearings, lobes, rockers, and ends of valves/springs. piston skirts, piston pins, and the plastic cam chain tensioner guides. The rest of the motor/tranny coat gooey w oil.

EXCEPT...and you need to ask PJ about this personally. The cylinder Walls and Piston rings remain BONE DRY. Do not use any lube on them. Its what the guys told me, I didnt hardly believe what I was hearing...so I asked em like 3 times to clarify. You should also double check w them...LOL. I did it and it turned out great. But ask those guys. I still have a hard time believing that is the right thing to do...LOL

Oh as long as your looking at eastwood.com "zddp oil additive". It was highly recommended to me. I think 1 bottle treats 4 qts of oil.

Awesome info Trek that was exactly what I was looking for in a response. Haha its nice to see someone being specific for a change, not like some guys aren't trying to be helpful but a picture is always better than a description for me.

I'll post pics as soon as I get this done!

I promise I am NOT going to take over....LOL Sorry dude.
But make sure you have all these centering ring things in place.
The front two studs get em twixed case and jugs.
The back two w drilled oil holes dont get em.

But, on top tween jugs and head.
The front two studs get em
The back two also get them AND o-rings that should be included w your kit.

I'm not vague, I just expect people to have stuff in bits, look at it and think about what I said ;)
Case halves and cam cover cant use gaskets, the bearing clearances could vary if there was something compressible in there.
There is also a further oil system mod, I'm going to take and upload some pics as I've described it several times but it isn't something thats easy to visualise, even with the parts in hand (it's also something of a PITA to do soI'm fitting externaloil line to cam)

I COMPLETELY understand...Also, if you do try to read through my build it should be easy to see. I was half freaked out, intimidated and overwhelmed throughout the whole thing. Just trying to save a brother from a little of that! LOL
