Where to buy top brackets for clubman bars install?

Hi,
I have a '71 CB500 and want to replace the stock bars with Lossa clubman bars. Problem is that I need top brackets. The stock top bracket which bolts the stocks bar in place has the light cluster (Oil, Neutral, Brights, etc.) as part of the bracket. Since I will be installing a new 2.5" speedo, the speedo will have all those lights. In other words, I would like to lose the stock top bracket which includes the lights on it. I looked into some riser kits, but don't want to drop $100 for just two top brackets.

Anybody know where I can purchase top brackets to mount a 7/8" clubman bar?

Have you got a wreckers / breakers / boneyard nearby? Most 7/8 bar clamp bolt spacings are identical, so a set off another bike would most likely just bolt straight on.
 
Not quite sure if I have something like that nearby, but willing to drive far if I have to. What would I look for in Google? Motorcycle junkyard? Thanks!
 
Just cut the center out of your existing bracket and shape the clamps. Did it on my 500 way back when. Looks and works great.

That's what I need! Thank you Sonic! I did not realize those would fit a 71. They will right? (Just checking :^)

Thanks! I messaged the seller on eBay and they could not confirm if the risers he was selling would fit a 7/8" bar (wasn't sure if they are 7/8" or 1").

Please let me know if you find the ones from your 72. Greatly appreciate it!

The SOHC fours 1976 and on moved the idiot lights to in between the speedo and tach, and so they use two plain mounts for the handlebars. These would work and look fine, and they are plentiful and cheap.

If you've got a decent salvage yard anywhere close to you, I'd check there first. Ebay is another option, or you could post something to these forums -- there are plenty of folks converting to clip-ons who don't need 'em anymore. I'd pick 'em up for you at my local yard in PHX (which has acres of bikes and tons of CBs, and would sell 'em to me for $5 or $10) but I just moved to Boston, where pickings are considerably slimmer.

Time for clip ons perhaps. Maybe it's the universe sending a message that your bike needs the real thing :-)

I here you. But I hear clip ons are a back breaker? Is this true? Believe me, I want to be authentic to the period of these as much as I can.

My 71 is a daily rider and I ride about 70 miles a day roundtrip (to/from work). I'm also 6'2" and have a long ass reach. I'm new to this and notice that going on 80mph on the highway, I want to be low down as possible because quite frankly it's safer! Damn wind blows me all over the place. Then again, that's with the stock bars.
 
Clubman's are a way to get bars in the same position as clip ons while keeping stock mounting position. AT least in theory but they are somewhat adjustable. For sure low bars and stock pegs are wrist and back breakers.

Maybe you will come to love the stock top clamp with all those wonderful lights. It may be possible to modify it somewhat for a cleaner look or is it possible to cut off the center section and keep the clamp parts?
 
I hate that cluster of lights. Also, I have a new 2.5" black speedo from Dime that has the lights anyway.

Can't be that hard to find these darn things...
