Why Does My Chain Sound Like That

Ever since I laid down my 1971 Honda CB 500 I've noticed my tire doesn't like to spin freely when the bike is on the stand.

In some spots it's looser and others it's so tight that wheel has trouble rotating. I never thought to much about it because it didn't effect my riding until today. It began to make a sound similar to a long taught rope being pulled quickly over wood (a sawing sound--zzzzzzzzzzz).

I took my left clutch cover off and put the bike in gear while on the stand. No rubbing. I did notice an obvious hop in the chain, it would bounce up and down.

I'm sure the slid out tweaked something, just not sure what. I guess I'll start with checking the rim (maybe it got tweaked out of balance--all though it feels and looks true). Maybe my swing arm got warped? I guess it could be a number of things.

What should I be looking for?

Maybe the chain has a stiff link or 2? Make sure all the links move freely. You could try to lube it, but if its super stiff, it might be time for a new chain.

Sounds like teh chain is bent and needs to be replaced. When the chain is off, spin teh rear wheel and see if the sprocket is round (concentric) I have seen a couple that are offset somewhat like a cam and that does not work. In your case, the rear sprocket should be sitting on a shoulder on the hub but it's possible that it is either out of concentricity or it may have a wobble.

it normally means the chain and sprockets are wearig out, the chain "stretchs" and hangs o the teeth of the sprocket as they wear. time for new sprockets and chains, and replace the front one even if it dosnt look worn, thats the point the chains under the most stress as it goes around the small sprocket.
