Wiring help

I'm wiring up my 1979 xs650, but I have a few small questions if someone could help. The diagram I'm using is below. My first question is about the bundle that is coming from the stator. It includes three white, one yellow, one green, one blue, one black. The three whites, the green, and the yellow I have figured out. The black I would guess needs to be grounded, but I'm not sure what the blue is for.

Also, I'm using a simple on/off switch for the ignition for now. On the diagram it shows the brown from the regulator connecting the the "on" side of the switch. If that's correct, then the brown from the regulator and the power going to the coils should be tied in to the same side of the switch. Is that right?

If anyone could help it would more than appreciated. If I have screwed this up completely I apologize. I am running separate regulator and rectifiers, stock.

I looked at your diagram,

First, from the experience i have... you might want to find yourself a full manual, complete with ACCURATE wiring diagrams.

Second, from what i can tell, the "stop switch" looks like your brake light. Because you already have your "kill" switch, to shut off the bike.

So it should have a brake attached to it somewhere if i'm correct...

Sorry if im no help, im currently wiring my bike as well.

I found out that the blue wire is a neutral indicator switch. What I'm mostly concerned with now is if the brown from the regulator ties in on same side of the on/off switch as the power going out to the coils. Not sure whats going on with the stop switch, but I'll get it figured out when I wire all that crap up.

Good luck man, wiring is a bitch, but remember wiring needs to be done right in the first place if your bike is to run correctly.

Download manuals and wiring diagrams - even if you're starting from scratch with the wiring (like I did on my XS).

Looks like the Br (Brown) wire is feeding current from the ignition switch to the alternator - presumably to energize the coil (but I know NOTHING about how these things work).

The rotor is an electromagnet, it needs current to magnetize. That wire may lead to the rotor brush, it needs to be there for charging.

I've got it mostly figured out. I have alternating spark anyways, so things are looking pretty good. As long as I don't have a wire in the wrong place somewhere that's gonna burn something up after 5 minutes.

Thanks for the diagram Tim. I have that one on paper, but the sad truth is that wiring diagrams make my feeble mind spin. It's something that I almost never have to mess with and my electrical skills reflect that.

The blue is the neutral indicator. I think someone asked that.

Just make sure you diagram your custom job. I think this was my final version - except my ignition switch is no longer keyed, it's just a toggle switch now.
