Woven stainless steel mesh

two-smoker

I reject your reality, and substitute my own!
I work at a factory where we make screen out of various materials. I've ammassed a bit of cast-off and wanted to know if anyone would like some for their project?

Just a shot of some smaller mesh. I formed it into a curve by hand, to show it might work well as an air inlet screen. These pieces are small, so best use for it IMHO.

for scale, I put my hand in frame.

I have several sizes of sheet and different openings. Also some different materials. Some stainless/brass combo, some plain steel.

A shot of some no-opening weave close up. I have a sheet about 3 foot by three foot of this. I also have some larger sheets of stainless with small opening that could be used as a rather stylish exhaust heat shield. Shoot me a PM if you'd like anything. I have literally no time or money into these, so I'm not asking much.

That's some neat stuff. I'm sure some folks will want some of it for something. Headlight grill, sidecover grills, nice backing to drilled cooling holes in drum brakes and engine covers...

hey!!.. I could use some of that stuff!!... Anymore pieces avaliable?

I need some!!! I drilled holes in my brake hub and need some mesh! Wha are you asking? Its that time of year for me to be broke. The holes are about 1 1/8in and their are 6 of them.

Just a few more choices. The last one is a table top I made out of some flat top plain steel crimp. I have several sheets of that. I'm on my way out the door to work right now, but when I get home tonight I'll do my best to post an inventory of everything I've got. I have several different styles of crimp, several thicknesses of wire that it's woven from, and some different materials as well. Everything I have is woven, not that cheapo expanded mesh or perforated. It's all made in big industrial looms, like making cloth but in metal.

Alright- I have ten pieces of flat-top weave .035" stainless, approx 6 inches by 4 inches each. I'm thinking 50 cents each for those. These are in the first pic- The stuf that can be folded into compound curves by hand, and holds shape well.
I have one piece of flat wire/round wire stainless weave with no space between wires, maybe for wall cladding originally. It measures 3 ft. by 3 ft. I can cut it into 4 sections if need be, about 3/4 sq. ft. ea. $1.50 ea. for those.
I have one piece which is pictured above which looks like ovals, about 3/16" opening and the wire is flattened to 3/16" as well. It measures about 4" by 4'. If I cut it into sections suitable for cladding a top triple clamp (my intended use) I'd want $1.00 each.
The stainless/brass combo pictured in the background above shaped like a circle in the first pic, I'm cutting into squares about 2" by 2", 50 cents each for those. (Brake drum holes.)
I have two pieces of flat-top crimp plain steel, 1/8" by 3/8" opening .120" steel wire. About 3 foot by 3 foot. Table tops or something. Very difficult to cut. $3.00 a piece.
The plain crimp .092" stainless weave in the last group of pictures- looks like window screen, but with a slightly larger opening and thicker wire. Measures about 8" by 2 foot. Would make a good exhaust heat shield. Also difficult to cut, I'm thinking $2.00 for that piece.
The flat-wire specialty crimp in the last group of pictures is made from .092" stainless that is flattened. This I actually wove myself. Really cool stuff. We cut it with a lazer to get size, so it's pretty tough. Not sure what I want for it yet..... need to think about that.
I have a sheet of plain steel with 4 openings per inch. 1 1/2' by 3'. looks like .092" Could be sold whole or cut up into sections. My original intention was car grille. could be painted to prevent corrosion. Make an offer.
Last piece- Same size as plain steel above but in stainless and .035" wire. Slightly tighter weave of 6 openings per inch. Easily bent into shape but kinda floppy. Again, could sold whole or in sections. Let me know what you need.
Phew! that's a lot of typing.... Oh, and shipping not included, but shouldn't be much, especially on the smaller stuff- It fits in an envelope.

Id like to get some of the kind for the hub holes but im tapped til after xmas. My damn paypal is even out of money. Do you think you will have 6 2x2 left for a week or two?

Shouldn't be an issue nemocb. I'll set some aside. Gimme a holler when you're ready.

I don't need any, I have access to some that we cant use on aircraft any more, I used a piece of scrap for this:

Hell, You guys probably made it!

But it is cool stuff, very versatile! (just watch the edges when you cut it!)

Basement rat. yeah that definitely looks like something I've got.... And I hear ya on being careful with the edges- my hands are all sliced up just from moving the pieces around to take pictures!
(My arms look like Frankenstein scars from work.)

i need some! as fine a mesh as you have, as i have about half inch by 2 inch slots to fill (brake drum vents)

get at me!

Just wondering... How do you guys plan on filling your vent holes with the mesh? Rather making the mesh stick to the parent material you cut the hole out of?

i just plan on cleaning the mating surfaces, etching them a little bit, and then using some JB weld to hold them in place from the back. ive done it before on a different project (My souped up 40cc uprights scooter! hahahah) and it worked well.

Same thing i was thinking, jb weld or some kind of epoxy. I am going to drill the same size hole in some flat stock and take a socket alittle smaller and try to form the mesh so once installed on the wheel the mesh is flush with the hub.

If you want some of the flat-top stainless I've got 4" by 6" (roughly) pieces. The only thing I'm cutting into small pieces is the stainless/brass combo, and I have a very limited supply. Everything as listed. The only mesh i have that is able to be formed in any way is the stainless flat top, which is in the first picture. All the super-fine mesh is way to tough to be shaped in any kind of compound curve. Take a look at the list, and ask away.

Rocan- The really fine stuff is really difficult to cut without a hydraulic shear. Might be possible with a hole saw, but it'll probably get heat discoloration from that. What I have in small opening that's not in big sheets is just two 4 by 6 inch sections. Let me know if that'll work for you, and if so we'll work out payment and shipping through PM.

I don't have the equipment to cut all the mesh I have. At least not and get good results. The stuff I CAN cut, I have listed in this post. Main thing is, I don't want to sell useless junk, so it's better for me to send off a bigger chunk and let "whoever buys it" cut it as needed, than ruin it trying to make a bunch of small pieces. I've got enough brass/stainless combo cut into two inch squares for one more person. otherwise I can send a few bigger sheets of stainless.

Alright sending some brass combo and stainless mesh out today- I still have some pieces set aside for Nemocb, otherwise brass combo is out. Lots of stainless left, tho.

Good deal Thom, the stainless/brass combo mesh looks like motorcycle jewelry! Now I just need to drill holes somewhere on my bike and install them. ;)
