XS in OZ

Thanks for the comments, I get my ideas etc from checking out the other builds going on. There is some realy great stuff happening.

Today I lapped the valves and fitted them to the head and placed it on the barrels. (see pic)
I also pulled down the front end for another polish and final assembly.

The billet alloy clipons are from a yzf250(I think). The headlight brackets I made from Stainless Steel

I made the front guard as well. Polished Aluminium.

That front guard is a thing of beauty. And man what a tank......classic lines.

You must be, or must have been involved, in the metal shaping industry somewhere along the line.

Either that or your anscestors made steel suits for King Arthur.

Cheers

Awe-inspiring dude. Your tank and seat are both top-notch... Hell, everything I've seen in this thread is top-notch.

Can't wait for more updates!

Hi guys, thanks for the compliments.

The front end is polished up and back together. Can't remember if I've listed all the stuff so I'll do it anyway.
Replaced bearings and seals in both front wheel and steering head. Progressive springs and new seals, oil, gaters etc. Front wheel relaced wih SS butted spokes from Buchannans. Clipons from FZR250 headlight 5 1/4"? Bates.

The engine is in. New cam chain, guide and tensioner. Rebore, piston and rings. ported head. All bead blasted barrells painted high temp silicon paint. Gaskets blah blah.

I also have been doing up the master cylinder.

Yeah, the mounts are fab'd from 1 1/2 tube, 6mm rod and nuts and button heads all in stainless.

I've been doing the bits and pieces to get the engine ready. Ordered an electronic ignition from pamco. And got the cup and oring for my master cylinder, But the rubber boot thing from inside the reservoire is a problem. Can't figure out a part no ????. I quized the guy at the brake engineers and he says that it's natural rubber.
I've got latex, I've got plaster. I've got cling film. I think the old boot is good enough with a liitle help from cling film to make a plaster cast, on which I can build up a new boot out of latex. Problem solved?

Today I made some anti reversion cones. These are made from 1 1/2" to 1 1/4" tubing reducers welded into 2mm plate then cut out and trimed up in the lathe. They sit snugly in the ends of the pipes. I can swap them for non reducer pieces if these don't work out. Sounds a bit narrow, but the ID of the port is the same as the big end of the reducer.

Please disregard the crap in the above about making my own master diaphram. I spent some time going around the bike shops in town and found one that was the same size. Lucky really, small town, not many bikes.

Went to Sydney for a couple of days. I checked out Deus ex Machina's showroom. Great bikes, the shop is stylish, but the prices are high. Got the obligatory t-shirt $50 :o and that was the cheap one.

We took the Manly ferry from Circular Quay, past the Bridge, the Opera house and some of the ships from the fleet. Fabulous!!

Today I gave the controls their final polish up and fitted them to the clipons.

Bloody Hell!! I went to fit my new Pamco electronic ignition and discovered that I'd put the cam shaft in the wrong way round. So it was strip it down to the point where I could change it and then reassemble it. Not something that I was planning on.

I,ve cut the kickstartshaft bushing off the RH side casing and fitted a plug. This was probably a mistake as the casting is full of oil filled cavities. To get anywhere near OK I had to turn the area into a molten pool. I had to reweld it three times and all I was doing was moving the circle of pits out. I'm not really happy with the results, but hopefully most of it will be hidden by the brake linkages etc.. Also made a plug for the tacho drive, as I'm fitting an electronic tacho.
