XS750 18" wheel conversion speedo question

Less is more
I have been working on swapping the front wheel on my XS750 for a smaller 18" front wheel from an XS400. I'm using the wheel from the XS400 but the axle and speedo gear from the XS750. Since this speedo gear was origionally for the 19" XS750 front wheel, will it be off now that the diameter of the rim is on einch smaller?

I would like to keep the stock speedo if possible, but not if it is going to be giving me incorect feedback.

I guess my other options are to spend the cash on a Acewell unit which uses magnets, a formula, and the measured circomference of your wheel.

Or I could not run a speedometer at all.

I see that you never got a response. Did you find a solution? I'm also interested to see what you had to modify to fit the wheel.

I haven't tackled the speedo gearing yet, but I do have the 18" front wheel sorted out. I had to find bearings to fit the xs750 axle but still fit in the xs400 wheel. I had to order them from Japan I think. Not sure what the measurments were, but I can find out if you need them. I made two 2.5mm spacers to move the disc brakes out to accomodate for the thinner wheel/hub. Other than that I had to make a 5mm spacer for the axle. It was a pain in the ass to get all the measurments correct, but if you need help I can gett he calipers back out to give you my spes.

I want to do the same wheel transfer on a XS850. I would also be interested in more detailed specs of what you did.

As far as the speedo question goes... I could be wrong, but with a 18" wheel the tire you put on it is going to have a taller sidewall than the tire you would have ran on a 19" wheel. Therefor, the circumference of the 18" + tire should be equal to the 19" wheel + tire. I could be wrong, but that is at least my understanding of tires.

Mine does. One side should have a disc and the other side should have a black cap covering 6 taped holes. I had to source bearings from japan and have a spacer machined to get it to fit on my xs750. Its worth it though.
