Not trying to be a dick, but this really isn't the best place for you to look for the answer. You're only tapping into the people who are following my thread. You should start a new thread in the technical help section of the forum. You will probably receive a better response... and not take up a bunch of pages on my build thread

The entire front end is from a 2006 Ninja 636. Had I done more research before purchasing the front end I would have gone with a R6 or a GSXR front end. The stem on the Ninja triple tree is really fat and won't fit in most vintage frames. I had to have my old stock stem pressed out of the old triple and pressed into the Ninja triple. Pain in the ass.
Thanks man! I didn't know that about the 750 frame, so I'm glad I didn't try that either!
Should be getting the frame back from powder this weekend (hopefully!), so I'll start putting her back together. Tires are mounted up, everything accessory wise is painted just sitting in my garage waiting.

Stiiiiill waiting on the frame, but in the mean time, everything in my garage is ready for it! Painted the engine yesterday with a semi-gloss engine paint. Love how it came out. I was a little nervous painting a fully assembled engine, but it worked out just as I had hoped. Only concern is getting it back in the frame without messing it up :/
All black accessories with the silver frame and silver fork/rear shock should compliment each other nice and look a little more unique than your everyday bike. Wheels are done black also but not pictured. Everything will be a satin finish except for the tank which should be a metallic high gloss.

I have really come to appreciate the beauty of this triple engine.. you're doing a great job on yours, makes me want to go the extra mile on finishing mine! Apparently i cant leave the cases a glass-blasted satin finish since these old castings weep oil and engine enamel is used to seal them, so I'll aim for silver paint and polish some protruding parts perhaps.. (i hate polishing..)

I may be a little bias (because I just really like triples), but they are one of my favorite engines. Just love how they look (if only they weighed a few pounds less...).
I HATE polishing too which is why I opted for black, and black, and more black on this one.

I haven't seen anyone run a 140 rear tire on a 850, so I wasn't a little nervous. However it fits perfectly! Little room to spare even.
Rear brake caliper is understated enough that I decided it wasn't worth drilling. The front rotors on this bike are intense enough.

What's the general rule of thumb here? I can check the rim width. Didn't realize there was a rim width minimum for tires. I don't think the motorcycle shop would have mounted it if they thought it was dangerous, but I could be wrong.

I'm sure a 140mm tire has been mounted to an XS850 hundreds of times.
It's not recommended, but I see enough bikes online with it that I doubt it's dangerous.
If it was me, and I already had the tire mounted, I would absolutely try it!
