Got the katana wheels mounted. The rear ended up being a larger pain in the ass than I imagined. Had to make spacers, shorten the chain, and still need to make a caliper stay that doesn't hit the tire. Progress update. Putting katana wheels on it to match the 41mm forks. Also tracked down a vintage yoshimura exhaust that almost fits perfectly. Also got another tail since mine is cracked and a katana front fender.

My gs550 has recently been blowing the fuse for the brake lights. I ran all new wiring to the front and rear switches trying to solve it. Now only the rear switch works. I assume if I touch the two wires for the front together it'll light up? If so they do not work somehow. am I missing...

I think mine being the first year on electronic ignition retained a mechanical advance. Got to look into that more.

I wish that were the case. I've addressed those issues running the positive and negative directly to the battery and upgraded the unit to a MOSFET unit. Everything charging system related checked out with the multimeter. I'm thinking maybe the digital ignitor may be an issue. Could it get hot...

The gas cap has a Yamaha logo on it. The only numbers I can find is M20 6501. I always stare at this and one day really want to grab it up. Google hasn't brought up anything for me.

What they said. The stock R/R is is garbage. I switched to a MOSFET R/R with all ground wires going to a single point with another wire leading to the negative terminal on my GS550E. Had 0 problems in the last two years with it.
