I've used an impact. Problem is the crankshaft is free, flailing around and will bang the case up. Wanted to see if anyone had tricks, but I guess most here are smart enough to do this early in the tear down haha. Thanks for the reply. I'm going to make a rig to fix the crankshaft.
Any suggestions on how to remove the crank bolt? I've removed the heads and can't seem to switch into any gears. I need to lock down the crank without ruining the case or rotor, but haven't had any luck yet.
Wow, please excuse my late reply. I'm new to the forum game and never saw the replied to posts tally at the top right.
I'm from Chapel Hill originally, schooling in Raleigh, and now in good ol' Mebane, NC. So I'm pretty familiar with the Triangle area, but can't say I've been to Fuel the Bull...
Hey all,
I found out about cafe racers about a year ago and have been grinding to earn some money to start my own. I've always wanted to restore a '69 Vette since high school, but was never able to for many immovable reasons. So when I heard about building up cycles, I figure this would be good...
I bought a GL1000 front end with 19" aluminum comstars (the flatter version) and want to match them at the rear. I think 18s would work better for the rear, but this is my first build so please advise if you feel it necessary. I'm located in NC, but am willing to pay for shipping. I have, what...
If anyone is interested in a shafts drive rear with this cut comstars,. I know a guy in NC with them. Just bought his fronts and is a very reasonable guy. The parts are off a gl1k.
Rich, why should I get a title before working on the project? I thought getting an new title was applying for a antique/salvage title and poof on to get it registered. Or maybe I'm just dreaming and need to research this more, haha. I was planning on titling it after I get it customized/restored...
Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm definitely going to keep this after taking it apart last night. The wheels are...interesting. The front end I'm getting tomorrow have comstars, so I'm gonna need to find a match for the rear. Any suggestions for what to look for or warnings against the front...
Thanks for the replies! So I got to talking with the seller and he says the auctioneer never told him anything and it wasn't salvaged. Story is the auction house bought a storage unit and found this in there; sold it to my contact as is. I guess in the end I overpayed for a bike; doubt I'd be...
I woke up this morning with a bad feeling about a bike I just bought yesterday. I got it from a guy who bought it at an auction and sold it to me via craigslist; also claimed no title bc it's from auction. I was so excited to start working on it that I only checked the frame for cracks, rewelds...
