To remove hub studs before Powder...or not??

I'd like your opinions, please. The wheel I'm using is from an 84 Virago and is shaft driven. As you can see in the pic, the studs that bolt the wheel's drive hub on are pressed in to the wheel and contain rubber. Ideally, of course, I would press them out before dropping it off at the powder...

Gouging the cylinder head - salvageable? Cam question as well

So i'm refreshing an 82 virago 920 and, because i'm an idiot, gouged the cylinder head while pulling out a stuck dowel pin. You can see the outline of where the circular head gasket sits...right on the largest of the gouges. Is this thing salvageable or should I just order a used one off ebay...

    Cylinder dowel o-ring placement?

2nd new thread of the day, at least i'm staying busy! Take a look at the parts diagram for a '75 Honda XL100: That o-ring...Is there only 1 on that dowel, or are there 3 (one for each dowel)? Do I put the dowel in the cylinder, then the o-ring around the dowel, then put the cyl. head on? I...

Hey everyone, I'm working on a '75 Honda XL100 dual sport. Looks like the cylinder will need a rebore... The standard bore is 50.5mm Can be rebored if <52.6mm Mine is measuring in at 51.3mm I've never had anything rebored before. Will the machine shop source oversize piston and rings for it...

    Carb Slide Won't.....SLIDE.

79 CB650, Keihin mechanical carbs, not the later CV style carbs. After pulling them in/out a few times in a row to clean the pilot before riding season and adjust the choke cable that I shortened and moved to the side of the carbs I must have caused some sort of damage to the #4 carb body. The...

    Would you buy this cx500?

Howdy-ho friends, Because I really need a third mc in the garage, and another cafe project, i'm thinking of buying a cx500. It's the deluxe with ~40k miles on it. Otherwise decent shape, starts and runs. I plan on stripping it completely down to do a cafe build anyway. $500, would you do it!?!?

    Horn doesn't work **** W/ Solution!******

For some reason my horn is giving me such a hard time haha. I'm trying to get it working. It's getting 12V of power. I think the handlebar button just connects the ground of it, when I push the button I get about 0.7V across the horn's terminals. I tried connecting the horn's ground terminal...

    hooking up universal ign switch

Hey guys, I think i'm going to get the following to relocate under the tank or somewhere else: www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/aftermarket/XP-4562530.html It's a 3 way switch though. Isn't mine a 2-way on my 81 kawi? It's either off or on. Also, I have 4 wires coming out of mine, can I be sure...

How strong is your front drum?

So i'm still fiddling around with my kz440 front drum trying to get it adjusted properly and i'm wondering how strong it's supposed to be. Going ~25, applying the front brake only as hard as possible results in a somewhat quick, but not immediate stop. So how strong would you say your front...

    new tubes with bigger tires?

So currently I have 18" spoked wheels with a 90 in the front and 100 in the back. I'm going to go up one size to 100 and 110. Do I need to buy new tubes if i'm only going up one size like this? Or will the tube just inflate into the larger space? Also, does it matter what stem type the tube...

    front brake drum synchronization?

So because i took off my front wheel, when putting it back on I followed the steps in the fsm to synchronize my front brake. With the wheel off the ground the process is to loosen the "secondary pad" (turning the connecting rod clockwise), then tighten the "primary pad" (which is the one...

trouble sinking into 2nd gear (kz440)

Hey guys, just starting my mild build, you'll see it pop up in the appropriate section soon enough. I'm having some trouble getting it into 2nd gear. It will just stay in neutral until I push the lever up a few times, then it will finally sink in. After that, it shifts up fine all the way...
