    79' Yamaha XS400

No new updates for now. Things have been really busy as of late. I got the clip-ons from a guy in Van Nuys. They are a pretty common set. He also makes side-mounted license plate brackets that seem very sturdy. Some of those come with a brake light as well. There's not a great amount of...

    79' Yamaha XS400

The pegs mount right onto the frame where the originals mounted. The peg ends however, had to be bored out slightly to fit over the mount like a sleeve. I used a stiff rubber grommet so that I could even use the original hardware. There are a couple of concerns, though. The position of the...

    79' Yamaha XS400

I could use a tank like that. I think I'd prefer the RD tank over the XS for the look I'm going for. btw Is that swingarm completely stock or did you weld on that reinforcement?

I've got an XS400 myself. Your strip down and build process so far is identical to mine haha. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread also.

    79' Yamaha XS400

I like the tank in that video. Would you happen to know what year XS750 that tank came from??? I reaaally appreciate the input. I dented my tank, filling, and painting today but it's all temporary until I find a tank that I like. This helps narrow the search.

    Tanks that fit a 79' Yamaha XS400

It is a nice tank. However, it looks hugely different from my 79' stock tank. My tank looks better suited for a bobber. It's less boxy and more 'teardrop' shaped.

    79' Yamaha XS400

Thanks for the input guys. Earlier today I was looking at 77+ Yamaha RD400 tanks. They've definitely got the lines I want but I'm not sure if they're quite the length I want. They do look good for something that seems very compatible. The frames are similar. Does anyone have any experience with...

    Help with fiberglass seat

I've been thinking of making a fiberglass seat for my XS 400 also. Let me know how it goes? Also, you wouldn't happen to have stumbled upon any kind of manx-ish tank that fits your XS 400 have you?

Does anyone know of any... or, at least, tanks that would take little to modify to fit?

    79' Yamaha XS400

First project. Anyone know of a good manx-style tank that will fit a 79' XS400? With/without some modification. The ugly stock pegs were easily replaced with bicycle pegs my friend found in his garage.

    Stripped Tank. How to Store

When I worked out on the water we would coat some of the brightwork in silicone. Brass and copper corrode extremely fast in a saltwater environment but the silicone protected it pretty good.

How i made my cafe seat

Cleeeeean! How many times did you do this before it started coming out so well? First time? I've been wanting to do this myself but I've never done it before. How well did your first come out assuming this wasn't it.

    What brand of paint stripper?

I definitely second that. Aircraft stripper works great. Will even get primer off. I suggest buying a good sized jug. I've used the spray on bicycles a lot. Just spray/brush it on, let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes or so, wipe it off with a rag. Most of it comes off with one application and...
