CB550 Voltage Drop - Electrical Issues

I guess you are right, I should never dismiss anything lol. It's worth a shot to try a new battery. As for connecting it to a car battery, would a full size truck battery be ok? Or too much? And can I do that with the battery out of the vehicle or best to leave it connected to the truck? Thanks.

CB550 Voltage Drop - Electrical Issues

Thanks for responding, but as I mentioned in the original post (sorry, yes I know it was a bit long and over explaining, lol), I have tried 2 batteries. The one that was in the bike when the problem first happened was less than a year old Bikemaster Trugel battery. I had no issues with the...

CB550 Voltage Drop - Electrical Issues

Thanks for the info, but the integrated unit is meant for SOHC 500's and 550's. It is manufactured by Rick's. And it has worked for the better part of a year with no issues before. And all the connections were direct connections of the original equipment. Not sure if that means anything, but...

CB550 Voltage Drop - Electrical Issues

Hey guys! I'm getting some weird electrical issues with my 76 CB550. With a fully charged battery connected, and the ignition off, I get a normal (12.5 or so) voltage reading. When I switch the key to on, the voltage drops to about 9v and will keep dropping. When I flip the key back to off...

    1976 CB550 K2 Engine Rebuid/Overhaul Suggestions

Yea, you are right, it's worth doing that just to see where its coming from.. I should also probably check with the shop I was speaking with and see if the price they quoted (around about price) is for just the top end, or actually splitting the case. And if Im not mistaking, they should be...

    1976 CB550 K2 Engine Rebuid/Overhaul Suggestions

Thank you for your input. I can't be sure whether the leak is coming from the shifter arm or not, I want to say it's one of those black round seals above it, but can't be certain especially because its been a little while since I've taken a look. To my knowledge, no one has put an O ring chain...

    1976 CB550 K2 Engine Rebuid/Overhaul Suggestions

Hello everyone! I have a 1976 Honda CB550K2 with about 40,000 miles on it. The bike runs fine, but has started to develop a small oil leak towards the end of the riding season from one of the seals behind the side chain cover. Being that it is winter time in NJ and averaging about 20 degrees...

1976 Honda CB550 Charging Question - Low Idle Voltage

Hello everyone, My bike seems to have a charging issue at low idle. Here are my voltage numbers: -Bike off, battery connected to bike - 12.4V (which I believe is normal) Although there does seem to be a bit of parasitic draw that I have to figure out -Bike running at idle, around 1,100 RPM -...

    1975 CB550 - trip hazard phase1

Lucky man, I wish I could get a set up like that. I didn't get to the rear yet, I bought a tool for the front hub. I got it off of ebay from someone in the UK, but they did have the same tool for the rear.

    1975 CB550 - trip hazard phase1

Got the hub apart yesterday. I finally was smart enough to drill out those little locking-punch marks. Also ordered a tool and a new retainer ring, much easier with the right tools and know-how lol. Got the new bearings and retainer ring in, masked up and ready for painting. Get it laced up to...
