    1981 Virago Clutch Won't Pull - Help

Solved: apparently its just damn near impossible to turn that arm with anything but the help of the cable. Pulls fine connected to the lever and cable.

    1981 Virago Clutch Won't Pull - Help

Ok, this may be helpful, I have just been trying to grab the arm with my hand and turn it. I'll give it a good twist tonight and see if I can get it to move. Thanks gents.

    1981 Virago Clutch Won't Pull - Help

So I've been doing a Virago cafe build over the past couple months and am now on the tail end of things. See build thread here, http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=64897.0 I started shortening cables the other night, but when I got to the clutch cable, I came to realize that the lever...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Been quite a while without a progress update. It's summer time now and I have been spending more time riding my Harley than I have working on the project. I believe I have completed about 95% of the electrical. Whether or not everything works of course remains to be seen since I do not have a...

    Getting started

Have fun with your build. I'm doing a similar build on an 81 monoshock right now (also my first ever build). Be sure to take 5 times as many pictures as you think you need during the teardown process, I took a ton and now I wish I had more. Here's the link to mine...

CB750 Back from Barber, back to work.

Wow, unreal build, paintwork looks incredible. Must be outrageously loud with those pipes. That's also quite the sharp angle you've got the rearsets pointed down at, looks hard to get a toe under the shifter.

    71 CB 175 Build

Awesome build, love the color scheme. Are you ending up with a lot of burnt pants and boots though?

    SR500 "The Art Bike"

Just incredible lines. Love the way the fairing curves with the front wheel perfectly.

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Been fiddling with rear-sets now for a couple of nights. I had bought DCCs universal rear sets that come without any linkage, so I needed to figure out how to get them connected. I picked up some threaded rod, and a couple of ball joints from Princess Auto which seem to do the trick. The...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

The tank has been hanging up curing for a couple of days now and seemed solid enough to lightly handle for a couple minutes, so I decided it was time for a first painted mock up. I'm starting to get pretty excited to get riding this thing.... Now my struggle over the last two...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Damn, the pipes look so good though. Maybe I will end up wrapping the headers up to the slip-ons once they burn. Didn't really want to do wrap on this though, I dont think it suits it.

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

I'm aware, my last home-painted cafe that I bought had a huge gas spill spot on the tank in the clear from the previous owner. I always make sure to grab a bunch of paper towels to wrap around the nozzle when filling.

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Now for the tank.... On Maritimes recommendation, I went back and picked up a tube of Bondo's Glazing Putty to fill in the small pits and such. The putty was super easy to work with and seemed to do its job quite will. Darker red is the putty, white-pink is the original bondo. You can really...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Now for a fun post, all the pictures after a weeks worth of painting. I did a batch of parts with the Duplicolor Hi-Build primer and gloss black, the same stuff I used on the frame. These have no clear coat, and haven't been sanded at all. I tried to mask off a part of the foot braces to get a...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Thanks for the feedback everybody, its great to hear. As far as the prices go, my budget is based on the idea to be able to sell the bike for break-even cost....assuming my hours on hours of labour are free (it's a hobby, not a job). Right now I am anticipating the final costs to be somewhere...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Last week, my evenings were all spent cleaning up parts for the next round of paint. Hopefully all within the next week here I should be able to paint a handful of miscellaneous parts again with the Duplicolor Hi-Build black, the pipes with Duplicolor Engine Enamel (because I'm not super happy...

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Oh absolutely, price aside and just looking at the frame itself, I'm very happy with how it looks and the quality of the build. It feels rock solid and the hassle-free approach of being able to bolt it on and fit my seat to it in 10 minutes was a huge relief.

1981 Virago XV-920: First Time Build

Now to address the subframe problem which was my main concern coming into this build. As I had mentioned earlier, I am really no metalworker, I have very very limited welding skill and I currently don't have any metalworking tools at my disposal. So I have two options for the subframe, find a...
