1981 Honda CBX "School Bike" Basketcase Rebuild

A little drama today as I tried to get new tires. Bike stalled out 3 times in just a few miles...and here there's only a very narrow (less than 4 feet) shoulder to pull off onto here on our single highway. Super sketchy with trucks wheeling past as I tried to get the bike running. People get...

    Senegal adventure

Aloha - I think that's a killer plan. Sure something might go wrong, but there you go. Sounds like you'll have time to get the bike sorted, so it should be no problem. I'd get a Japanese bike. And what do you do with the bike once you get to Dakar? Sell it? Keep it? If you plan to return for...

    What's up everyone

Aloha! The bike looks good. I like the yellow headlight and Comstar-like wheels. Did you spray the yellow on or buy a yellow bulb? Does the front master act up sitting so sideways? Welcome.

APRIL 2013 - DO THE TON BIKE OF THE MONTH - NOMINATIONS

Aloha Guys! Damn! Thanks for the nomination! I am humbled! I was Australia without internet for the past 2 1/2 weeks..just now getting things back to normal. I'd accept for certain, but it looks like I'm too late. Can I get nominated again or something? The bike is running and only needs...

1981 Honda CBX "School Bike" Basketcase Rebuild

I've thought about this - and I dropped a hint on his YouTube channel. But my guess is he's got one, so he doesn't need another. In fact I then used Google Earth to find his Big Dog Garage and saw the streets he drives down for his videos....all around the Burbank Airport..it's the place with...

    Newbie, Portland Oregon

Aloha Paul, Sounds like a fun project. A couple things come to mind... Do you have the service manual for the bike? Maybe it's online on a forum somewhere? That'll help a lot. You might want to replace the valve seals since you're in there and the bike is 33 yo. Bet you'll have it up and...

    Starting a 82 honda 750 v45

One trick I just learned is to fire it up with no plugs in the first time...just the starter to build up oil pressure in the empty motor. Turn it over for 20-30 sec and then put the plugs in. Then fire it for real. Worked for me.

1981 Honda CBX "School Bike" Basketcase Rebuild

Thanks guys. So I got the brakes bled and finally got to ride this 1047cc 6-headed monster. Fun facts: Me = never ridden anything bigger than a 650 before This CBX = never been ridden before by anyone This situation = I've never ridden a bike I built from parts before. Brakes = untested So it...

    Ninja 250/YZ490

I saw that style a lot in Tokyo last year...street bikes with large-ass motocross tires. But yours is more sick than any I saw. 私はそのスタイル東京でたくさん昨年 通り大尻モトクロスタイヤでバイクを見ました。しかし、あなたは私が見たものよりも多くの病気である。

Using Skype Video for Rebuild Help

I wanted to pass along how helpful it can be to use video Skype to get help on a rebuild (assuming you can can find someone to help you). For the 3-day CBX rebuild I needed to have all the parts sorted out and ready to go before the build started. By using video skype I was able to get my CBX...

1981 Honda CBX "School Bike" Basketcase Rebuild

Well after an intense 3-day session, my friend Tony from Oz and I were able to get the CBX back together again. Tony's a CBX pro - and with his wisdom and guidance and a LOT of wrenching, I now have a CBX in the garage. Rather than go through each nut and bolt, I wanted to simply pass along...

My New Project: 1981 Honda CBX "school bike" - 6 cylinders of Go-power

I completely agree about carbs. I leave mine alone unless there's a definite problem. These ones haven't been on the bike yet, but they are looking good and will only be getting a good (second) cleaning before a test run. If you're a CBXer, then you know that a guy Mike Nixon wrote a CBX carb...

My New Project: 1981 Honda CBX "school bike" - 6 cylinders of Go-power

Well I am a carb guy and I see what you're saying. Thanks for trying to give me some props and support. I appreciate it. Truth is there's 6x more jets to clog; 6x more o-rings to fail; 6x more slides to jam and needles to bend and floats to flood...there's exactly 6x more things that can go...

Thanks guys. I've started the live webcast of the rebuild. http://ustre.am/U2en This is more of test than anything. But feel free to say hi on the chat. If you're somewhere cold, you might enjoy just seeing the sun more than watching me clean carbs... Here's the URL...obviously it won't be...
