$10.38 cent Cafe Racer Build (yea thats right $10.38 and yes its possible!)

im kinda lost.....
That "thing" in the first post is not built, a cafe racer, or something to be proud of in any way....regardless of how much it cost.
Also I cant see how this thread is useful in any way.

My bike post is simply meant to inspire people and I wanted to see what some of you guys have built for very little money. I have been in the bike biz for awhile and work is hard to find right now. I could build really expensive machines and sell them for a lot of money to fat cats. Which I HAVE DONE IN THE PAST but I now live in an area where the people are very poor and motorcycle work is few and far between. Most people here dont even know what the hell a Cafe Racer is much less a motorcycle. Most of my work has damn near been charity work for the poor around here so I have now become the expert at making nothing out of something with very little. The money I do get for my work is just for my own personal projects and shop tools. The good news is I have gotten a few bikes for practically nothing because everyone is poor.

Inspire to do what? You have a mildly crashed sport bike with some crappy paint.
This preoccupation with a "budget" i just stupid. Things cost money.

From what I've read here, I guess my '78 GL1000 with '75 engine is not really a "cafe racer" - stripped tourer is probably what it would be called. Even though The GoldWing was not yet seen by Honda as a tourer until people started hanging fairings and bags on them and criss-crossing the country. Street fighter is apparently what you want to call his. That is just a label for what was called a cafe racer earlier. Just built from a newer frame and gear.

I mean, he seems to be a bit pushy, but your response to him is leading me to see that I may not be welcome, either. Reminds me of a church I left. Cared for themselves instead of God's children.

What would a cafe racer site be without arguments about what a cafe racer is? For my part, I wouldn't mind seeing your 'oldwing, and there are a couple of pretty nice naked 'wings on here. If your plan is to show up and type in all caps and be pushy about the great job you did patching a daily driver back together on the cheap, then you're right, nobody's going to get particularly excited about it.

That'll preach. ;)

How was a GL1000 not meant as a touring bike from the start? It was built for the US market to do just that....

Also I happen to be of the mind that a cafe racer should have some actual functional improvements, not just a bike/rider playing dress up.
A street fighter is just a sport bike that was crashed by some one to cheap to fix it.
And a brat is just the the Japanese term for "looks like parts bike sans seat"

Buck up, it's the web...nothing real happens here or gets done.

Amen bruddah! Finally someone that knows what they are talking about!

Right here is a perfect example of what is wrong with the motorcycle community. All this talk that i am sooo special and a bike needs to be this to be a "Cafe Racer" and is really called that and if you don't ride this bike than Im gonna push my nose at you. BLAH BLAH BLAH!! OR How about the ones that think if you don't ride my beloved Harley Davidson brand your the scum of the Earth! To branch off on that stupidity what about those Harley jerk offs that tell me that my Sportster is a girls bike??? OR the chopper guys that think if you don't ride a rigid chopper your a big pussy. The list goes on and on in the bike community and ultimately ALL OF THIS is just a bunch of JACKASSERY!

What happened to a motorcycle just being a damn motorcycle and if you got one than that's super awesome and your cool like me??? I love all bikes and I have made a lot of friends in the motorcycle community that share my opinion about motorcycles. BUT I always come across that one asshole from time to time that thinks for example that if you don't ride a West Coast Chopper you ain't shit just because he watched some stupid TV show. I honestly don't really care what this bike I built is called its just a damn motorcycle to me and a wonderful and fun form of transportation that really did cost like I said ten dollars and thirty eight cents.... LOL!!!

Except you also had to throw a stack of parts at it as well as the $10.

So, you're full of shit from that angle.

I do agree that if it floats your boat, then more power to you ;)

I have to say that I have seen some crazy bike builds and met some wild and crazy people in the bike community. BUT I most also say I have NEVER EVER insulted someones ride before. I have never acted snobby or yuppy to people in that way. Doesn't matter how ludicrous that motorcycle build might or what brand or model bike they like I can always say well at least the guy likes motorcycles and we share a common interest there. Perfect example of this is that I ride all the time with a bunch of guys that ride Goldwings. I am not a big fan of the Goldwings but who cares! I ride with these guys because they are great and wonderful people that understand what it means to ride a bike and enjoy the Earth!!

If you read my little build sheet I typed up you will see that all I spent on it was $10.38 cents. I don't get it what the hell do you people have to gain by saying what I did to this bike is not true?? It makes no sense!

You got a stator off your neighbour.....changed the exhaust.....put on an airbox....made a seat.....etc, etc.

Not saying you didn't just spend $10 on the build - but you did it by having access to a bunch of free parts. Not to mention consumables like cleaning stuff, soldering stuff, blah, blah.

By these standards I've probably built half a dozen totally free bikes over the last 10 years. But in reality they weren't free.

I think we're all missing the point here. The guy took a stop sign (government property), integrated it into the bike, and still passed inspection.

Despite horrendous grammer, the guys a winner. :p

What you typed above has no relevance. It isn't about the fact we have snubbed you because of what we think a 'cafe racer' is. Hell, if you built an awesome bike and called it 'a rainbow sparkly clusterfuck', I would still like it.

Its the fact you came on to here, showed a picture of a shoddily assembled bike, and proceeded to thrust it down our throats and basically, put yourself on a pedestal.

Quite frankly, if you actually received an A for that bike, you must have sucked a lot of old man dick.
