1972 CB350 Cafe Racer

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

From what I've read online, if it hasn't been removed you have drill out some retainers put in at the factory. Mine has been off at some point in the last 43 years. I just used my retainer clip tool to put in the holes and unscrew it. So, pretty easy.

That's nice that you're threads were still good;they must have drilled out the 'stakes' carefully & correctly.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Your bike looks like it's coming along well good job. I restored in 1931 Ford Model A with the same mentality that you have of just do some little thing every day and you'll be surprised that it's done sooner than you thought. I'm using that mentality now as I'm trying to work on a 73 CB 350.

Since we're building the same bike, I've been keeping tabs on your build as well. It's looking good.
You did more of a tear down than I plan to do on mine.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Replaced the blinker relay today and now have functioning turn signals.
Hoping to have the back end of the bike back together and have it rideable again while I'm off of work this week.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Bike back together and ridable.
Done so far:
Oil seals behind shifter cover
New sprockets
New chain
New rear wheel bearings
New rear brake shoes
Oil change
New back tire. Up to 110 from 3.0
Blinker relay

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Was gifted a set of turn signals by a friend. Were spray painted black. Cleaned off with some fine steel wool and wd40.
These will go on the back of the bike. Considering bar end turn signals for the front.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

To do next after riding it today:
Bogging down a little. Fuel flow seems to be good through the lines and filters. Need to remove and clean the carbs.
Going to drain the gas tank while it's off the bike since I don't know the age of the gas.
Little bit of an oil leak around the head. Will torque down the head while I have the gas tank off. If that doesn't fix it I have gaskets in order to replace it.
I also have a front end shimmy at 60+ that needs to be identified.

I like the retro style of those sigs.

Me too.
My goal is to build a retro style bike that has modern cues but could have been built as a cafe style bike at the factory in 1972.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Looks like I'm going backwards.
Carbs are off the bike. Need to go through them now.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Slight change in plans for front suspension. Picked up a set of USD forks today. Came off of a cbr954. Will obviously need trees etc. yet.

thats a dumb thing to do on a vintage bike were they in a wreck ? broken triples ? if so the legs will be bent as well

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Got a seat from raretromoto.com. Good looking seat. Still working on getting it mounted. More to follow once it's fully mounted.

Let us know how you end up mounting the seat. I've thought about buying one from them as well.

I've got a couple things to clean up on the tail end of the frame before deciding final mount style. I'll be sure to share details once I have nailed down all the details.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

I have ordered more parts for the bike today. I want to have it on the road for spring. It won't be 100% of the way to what I have envisioned in my head but it should be ridable.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Here's another shot of the seat. (Give everyone a good look at my disorganized garage)
