The only thing w/ that seat is when you give a little lady a ride, she'll have to ride Up Front ;D

I have ridden it. I was very surprised at how "light" it felt for a big bike.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

So, I was messing around with what I'm going to do with the rear fender last night. Since the back of the seat is flat across the back, I can't run the fender in the stock position because it won't allow the seat to sit flat. If I run the fender under the seat as shown in the picture I'm 99% sure I'm going to rub the rear wheel on the fender if I go over a good bump.
I was thinking about running longer rear shocks anyway. Looks like shocks are readily available in 13.2" and 14.5". Looks like there are several people that have used 13.2" shocks. Thinking 14.5" may be a little much (chain rub, too much weight transfer to the front, etc.)
Thoughts? Advice?

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

longer shocks will likely have a bit more shaft travel than stock it may not gain you clearance ,a wash most likely
the chain runs looser when you put on longer shocks it will be a slapin
you are going for looks over function unless you do something, correctly
how tall are you ? that seat wont allow you to move at all the hump is too far forward ,its just too short wrong seat for that bike :-\
or add 3" to the front and slide it back and raise it up a bit raise the tank as well maybe
or hollow out the under of the seat

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Hmm...hadn't considered travel difference on longer shocks.
I'm about 5'10".
I had considered changing the shape of the rear section of the seat to allow extra fender room. But, have not checked to see if it's possible. Don't really want to ride sitting in the fender.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Looks like it's been a little while since I posted on this thread.
Have had a couple direction changes in the last 6 months or so. When I first bought the bike my thinking was to build it into something that would double as a daily rider. This was largely because I wasn't really in love with my daily rider. I have since sold my old daily and gotten something I like a lot more. All that to say that I am now going in a more traditional café racer direction.
I have tried a number of tanks and finally settled on using a CB500T tank for the build. I have put rear sets on it but still need to run all the linkages. Have also switched to clipon handlebars. I will try to be a little more regular with updates that I have been.
Here are a few pictures of what it currently looks like.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod

Had to do a little work to the seat to get it to sit against the tank like I wanted it to. Had to pull the upholstery back and trim the plastic. Also had to heat up the plastic a little and bend it outward to fit the profile of the tank.

Question: I removed the rear fender support bracket on the frame (circled in the picture) in order to fit the new seat. How much frame rigidity does that bracket add? Do I need to be concerned with tying the back end of the frame back together when I fabricate the rear seat mounts?

nope no concern needed
the frame will be fine that crossover is stricktly to support stock seat ,the seat lands on it
the only side loading the rear of the frame gets is through you ass sitting in the seat now if you weigh 450-lbs and like to sit way back on the seat it may be an issue after the wheelie control is installed ;)

Cool. That's what I was thinking looking at the frame. There's another large cross bar near the battery box. I figured that probably took the load. Thought I would ask in case I was overlooking something.
