Cocoa is nice, very touristy area though! We all could've had a DTT get together lol

Only one little pic, I've been tinkering here and there when I get the chance. If anyone wants a hardly used set of mikuni vm32's let me know and maybe we can work out a deal, I just can't get them to run right in the bike so the stock ones are going back on.

Joey

Holy shot it's been a while! It's been a shitty few months but I've finally found a little time to tinker here and there.

I have a problem and I need some input. I know what most are thinking "why'd you f*ck with it if it was running?" And that's not the answers I need lol!

I'm gunna start over on the bike and do shit the right way the second time here. I kinda did things backwards the first time and I'm regretting it now.

But...... I want to get the bike running proper before I tear it down. It backfires a lot under load, the idle is Eratic and it bogs down when you are under load as well. What can I look for here?
New battery
Ricks rectifier/regulator combo
New switches for everything

Could it be electrical? I never f-ed with the motor really besides oil change/spark plug change/valve adjustment/ basic stuff.

Lead me in the right way guys!

Thanks!
Joey

properly set the ignition points?(use new points)
make sure the advancer is working ?
set the timing with a light at full advance ? both cylinders
replace the plug caps, new ones, trim the leads ?
check for leeks in intake maniflds ?
that'l keep you busy for a while
all of the above must be done, make it so

Thanks for the quick response! I'll save this list and check it off once at a time I will post up any questions cause I'm sure I'll have some!

They're from DCC
What bars would you use?

they are way too low to be safe unless you ride around in a racing crouch laying on top of the tank,,BUT then you can't see over and around traffic
if you try to sit upright so you can see in and around traffic, then your arms are locked out straight eliminating safe proper control
the stock bars would be 100% better, slightly lower is fine some 3" rise mx/dirtbike bars are great
remember you are not on a racetrack

Very true and great points made! I was thinking of doing mx bars at one point but I loved the look of the cafe bars lol

you know what ? myself and other grissled veterans of motorcycle riding and RACING absolutely think handlebars like that look hilariously stupid
and we know you cannot control a motorcycle with precision with handlebars at such a ridicoulus angle and height
you will by far have the most control comfort and enjoyement if you are seated and handlebared much like on a dirtbike

Jarno Saarinen was pretty quick with handlebars at a steep angle ;)
Personally I prefer a steeper than the 'normal' 10 degree clip-on which is why I made my own using cut down bars (to get the adjustment)
Dirt bike style is great if your sitting upright (I raced Enduro/MX) but I find leaning forward a bit is better for my back nowadays 8)

yes ;) but jarno was not trying to negotiate traffic and even jarno would not be able to save the odd slide or tankslapper,or really manuever well at all to avoid an accident, it is strictly a very strict no compromise, very risky, racing position, designed mainly for a low wind profile, and cornering weight distrabushun BUT a completely foolish and dangerous position to use on the streets, very limited lock and a lack of leverage, very close to zero control in an emergency

Hey Guys can I do a compression test buy kicking over the bike? I don't have my electric starter hooked up...

Joey

yes do it with engine warmed-up both sparkplugs out so it kick over easiest
tape the throttle wide open and reach in the carb mouth with a stick and hold the slide wide open
kick away until the gauge stops climbing
do you have a good working tester ?

Yeah I bought a brand new compression tester for my VW! So you can leave both plugs out when testing one cylinder?

Thanks!

yep and easier to kick ovr, leave ignition OFF

Here are my results, one pic for each cylinder. Also A pic of one of my plugs, maybe this can give you a guess on to what to do first on the motor?
Thanks!
