Great news for me and Project 37 ;D

My sister in law gave birth to a healthy baby girl this morning at 3:00 AM Eastern Standard Time... This is great news for 2 reasons... First and foremost, I am a proud uncle Again!!! and secondly, I finally get to make the trip to pick up my bike!!! ;D ;D
I will get some better "Before" pictures up as soon as I can..

Cheers,
Kevin

Re: 1974 CB 360 ~ Project "37" ~ Work Begins

Well, the bike is at my house now ready for the work to begin... Overall I am very happy with the state of the bike, I was a little aprehensive about buying a bike without first seeing it in person, but thankfully I was dealing with an honest guy..

All that being said, I have hit my first hurtle... I got the bike all trailered up on Saturday and asked my brother for the keys and he says "There is a box of parts over there, is it in there" I rummeged through the box and found the title and a few other needed parts but NO KEYS... When I got home I tried to use my Utility Key (for the seat and tank) from my CB200 to get the seat open, but it didn't work

I texted the guy I bought the bike from to see if he still had the keys, but he never responded...

Can I take the seat lock and the ignition switch from my CB200 and use it on the 360 without to much concern???

Thanks guys, and I will get some better pics up when I get home!!

CHeers,
Kevin

Right, so I got a hold of the PO of the bike and he is mailing the Keys to me so the Key issue is solved!! :D

On to my next issue, I bought a set of CL 350 high pipes from a fellow DTTer and tried to install the yesterday.. FAIL .. I was able to get the pipes in place where they were supposed to be, but with them in place I could not get the flanges bolted to the motor.. Does anyone know if the CL 350 pipes WILL fit correctly to the CB 360 motor? I really want to run this style pipe on the bike, so any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I also ran into some issues installing the CB 550T tank on the bike, I was able to get the wiring harness to clear to tank, but I could not get the Tank mounts to sit on the tank rubbers properly. Has anyone else tried installing this tank on the 360?

Thanks guys, I will try to get some of the photos I took yesterday up in the thread (I cant seem to find my camera cable to connect it to the pc)

Cheers,
Kevin

Re-mounting the pipes on my CL450 was a PAIN-IN-THE-ASS! real fiddly job you need 8 hands. If the pipe flange fits into the exhaust port and the pipes clear the frame etc. they should work. keep fiddling with it.

I just did a quick search, and I think the main reason I was having a problem as I was not mounting them at the right angle. The right side pipe clears the frame and motor like it is supposed to, I just have to fiddle with the left side to get the angle right. Thanks for the tip...

BTW I still need to get those motor parts up to you... I am out of pocket this week so I will have to wait till the 15th to get the motor parts in the mail to you..

Cheers,
Kevin

Got some better before photos!! Some things have already changed, I installed the new Clubman signals on the bike (but it got dark before I could snap some photos) So here is "37" before... Should be getting into the meat of the build this week!!

Yeah, both of those are in pretty good shape, so hopefully I can incorporiate them into the build..

Where are all the progress photos? Should be done by now. ;)

Haha... unfortunately progress has been SLOW, because I am at the mercy of the weather (no garage to work in) and it keeps fucking snowing or sleeting at the weekend!!! That being said, I got some work done yesterday after work...

I got the new bars installed, had to mount them upside down and right side up to see what functioned best and in the end I liked the way it looked with them mounted upright. I also got the cables pulled out of the old handle bars, got the wire bundles re-wrapped (the 35 year old plastic sheathing was all cracked and broken).

I got the 500t tank mounted, had to trim about 1/4 inch off of the tank mounts and cut down the rubber tank mounts in order to get it to sit properly. I am going to have to trip about 3-4 inches off of the seat pan in order to get the stock seat pan to work with the new 500t tank.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to snap any photos last night, because it got dark on me. I will try to get some up today so you can see some progress..

Cheers,
Kevin

Did a little more work this afternoon after work, got the stock seat pan cut down to fit with the new 500t tank. I think I am going to use the stock seat padding, just cut down a bit.. well, here are some progress photos for those of you who have been following... more to come soon.. ;D

Cheers, Kevin

Kevin. Your bike is looking really good. Dang you, now I want some euro bars for my TX650. Yeah, I think I'm going to go that way. That tank is making your bike look real tough. Keep up the good work and the photos coming.
And don't forget me once riding weather comes around.
Eddie

Looking good, but those extensions on the side might be a little tough to upholster. I also have an idea for the seat cover once you get to that point that I want to run by you.

Maybe when you guys are riding you can give me a call and I can follow you in my Civic while making motorcycle noises :(

Thanks for the words of encouragement... I am going to be working mainly on the seat this weekend, got a few ideas of how I want to build the hump in the rear section of the seat. I want the hump to be FIRM, since no one will ever sit on it, and make the seating area nice and comfy!!

Eddie - I was shocked at how different the bike looked when I got the new tank mounted... It looks like a totally different bike.. Can wait for riding season, I asked my dad if he wanted to do the run with us (on his HD) and he was down for it...

Charles - I wasn't planning on making those tabs so big, but I had to cut more of the seat pan then I was planning.. I will figure out a way to get something in there to fill that hole while allowing clearance for the tank..

What was your idea for the seat cover?? I am planning on fabricating a removable seat cowl to cover the rear hump, to give the bike that Thruxton look.. Shouldn't be too hard.

Big R - I have a little bit more work to do on the tank to get it ready for paint. I need to clean and line the inside of the tank, and figure out how to get the petcock to clear the top of the left carb... I have seen something on this site somewhere about it, but cant remember where I saw it.. As far as the stripe goes, I think I am going to move the stripe over about 1/4 inch and paint the wide stripe think it would look better this way..

Again, thanks for all the kind words.. cant wait to get this baby on the road..

Cheers,
Kevin

Kevin, we might be able to meet for this as well.
