The front fender was originally designed to act as a fork brace. Helps with stability or something. I don't know though, my bike has yet to move under it's own power.

Keeps the forks from twisting under hard cornering. Something you need to avoid in order to not die. Otherwise thats a really nice build. You could grind the rivets that hold the fender to the brace off, clean up the brace, paint it black. Wont be noticiable.
