1974 cl125 (going cafe now)

Re: 1974 cl125 (olive and plaid)

Ok that's kinda fun! I'd lower it and run some frisco bars on it!
Lowering is simple and reversible front and rear.....

Re: 1974 cl125 (olive and plaid)

Where are you going to get that colour? Have a colour code allready? I picked out a similar one for my bike, got napa to make me a few cans of Toyota Highlander 'cypress pearl'.

Re: 1974 cl125 (olive and plaid)

hey there and good on ye for deciding to keep a classic classic.
if it is not too late to lend a hand with tank cleaning. i had brown water loud tank (rust) after lots of attempts, nuts and bolts, rinsing, wd40, muriatic acid, over and over and over.
what works on STEEL and not ALUMINUM is dollar store "the works " toilet bowl cleaner!! it has the highest concentration of some wicked dangerous chemical ever in it. and my tank came out completely spotless after using it 100 percent strength, soaking an hour, then adding water to fill, 5 min, and dump it all down the toilet, then i just mixed a little baking soda, in water and switched it around to neutralize the acid, water to get out the baking soda, then dry with towel or hair dryer (both) and fog it with wd40 or motor oil or trans fluid, whatever is on hand to protect. or if you are ready you can fill it with gas to keep the flash rust from returning.
two most important things to do ! do not do this at all if you have an aluminum cap, tank or petcock take them of and wait until dry before replacing them on the tank. if not then at the end you will have a puddle of metal and likely a good size acid burn from the leak, this stuff eats aluminum, 2 the baking soda and oil to protect are crucial don't do them and in minutes you will have black oxidization and have to re rinse or start over 3 BE CARE-full and do this as if you were using a powerful chemical to dissolve metal because you are!!!!

for more reading i saw a long post about tank cleaning on sohc4
sorry to runaway with this post but i am gonna add this to the 50 mod section and i was so frustrated with other methods and shitty results that i got a little ranty. OVER

Re: 1974 cl125 (olive and plaid)

Also... If you take an empty 2ltr soda bottle, and fill it up 3/4 with The Works cleaner, than ball up a bunch of alum foil and than add that to the Works... Well throw it and get the fuck away. Quickly. Really far away. I do not condone such activity by the way. Just heard about a guy who did it once...

Re: 1974 cl125 (olive and plaid)

done that too.... my brpther almost got in big trounble ptting one in a mail box, maybe ill take pics though when i clean my new tank out tommorow?
i just bought a sweet 125 today myself, dont think it is too nice to cut up though, we shall see once i tear into it, "nameless"

Mike, this is the most badass thing ever dude. I wanna see this happen so bad.

I just bought a little 100 myself. It's getting the CR110 racer treatment, but I just thought I'd tell you how much I love this rendering.....so freakin awesome!!!

Re: 1974 cl125 (olive and plaid)

curbcast - 17s or 18s. that one appears to have a 17 rear and an 18 front, as does my cb125n.

Re: 1974 cl125 going street-track/bob

well, im back from neglecting this little bastard.

i kreemed the tank. charged a new battery up for it. cleaned the carbs pretty good. cleaned the petcock thurougly, and a few other minor things. and i got it up and running (just need to do some idle adjustment now)

it's a pretty good feeling to know this sat for over 5 years not running (maybe even more) and i was able to bring it back to life. it runs really good now and feels great while im riding it.

im really inspired by bratstyle's and gravel crews simplicity of their street tracker style bobs, and im gonna go that route for sure on this. fuck restoring it and selling it. im making this how i want to. i still dont know EXACTLY how its gonna be yet, (though i know its been through alot of mockups on this thread) but its gonna be something im gonna love

Re: 1974 cl125 going street-track/bob

Awesome Mike! Sounds great too. So your switching the plan up again, huh? ha ha ha. Well looking forward to whatever you come up with man.
