1974 cl125 (going cafe now)

Re: 1974 cl125 going street-track/bob

got my new bars today for it. i was hoping theyd have a little more rise than they do. i was basically hoping to get the same dimensions of the bars i have now, just minus the cross bar. the rise on these is about 1"-1.5" lower, that shouldnt be too much of a fussy hassle with the cables, right?

Re: 1974 cl125 (brat style influenced)

made my new space even better, put up some florescent lights up tonight. really bright!

now all i gotta do is get a curtain over those windows for when i work at night, cause i feel like the whole neighborhood is staring at me.

Bike's lookin great Mike. Only 1"-1.5" lower bars won't affect your cables too much at all. But if they do, the CB125 cables are actually a little shorter. Assuming that you have CL cables now of course

That thing's looking great man! But that black Tracker in the background is the real star of this video, it's obviously been cared for by a REAL mechanic.

Rock on the bike sounds great. I like the pornstache very nice. Classy even ;D Cant wit to see what you come up with on this one.

Re: 1974 cl125 (brat style influenced)

haha yeah i shaved the stache off :(

but i can grow it back pretty fast.

and yeah you cant see the whole tracker in the video, or how the windows are in place with duct tape. and yeah, those were the neighbors i was talking about.

Re: 1974 cl125 (brat style influenced)

shes alive (by herself)

so as you may know i got it running after years of sitting in a house. but it wouldnt idle, i could drive it but i just had to keep the revs coming to keep it alive.

but after i came home today i did a little carb adjustments and voila, it idles!

i insured it today and im gonna plate it tomorrow or friday morning. now the painting comes, as well as the seat build and the rear fender

Re: 1974 cl125 (huge update)

so since i got my bike to idle and run. i insured it and today i got it plated and in my name.

last night hit my sidecovers with some sandpaper, primer, paint and clear.

then today i came home, took the tank off and emptied it. sanded, cleaned, primed, painted, and cleared.

then my buddy zach came over and we got down to biz. took off the rear fender and turn signals. as well as the front turn signals.

last night i ordered a little tail light housing for the little fender im making out of my old gs550 front fender. got some wood at home depost to cut the shape for the new seat upholstry, and i made this.

we attacked the bars, and let me just say FUCK wired thru bars. oh well. tomorrow we'll get all the holes drilled in the new bars, and hopefully everything will be finished besides the tail light.

also tomorrow gotta cut the fender, drill the holes for where theyll be mounted as well as the hole for the little tail light. then sand, primer and paint it.

yay for progress!

FTW.

Re: 1974 cl125 (huge update!)

Wow Mike, you're tearing this puppy up. Everything's lookin good and congrats on the motor too!

Re: 1974 cl125 (huge update!)

MNiek you are a bit too close when you are sparying and laying the paint too thick, do lighter coats and you will not have so much peel in it... looking good man

Re: 1974 cl125 (huge update!)

thanks joe. if it makes any difference, i used duplicolor semi gloss black engine paint, so itd be flat but still have that sheen and itd be oil and gas resistive. i think that that speckled look is how the paint actually cures, and i really like it. ive used it for a few things around the house and they a look like that way finished, and other stuff iv painted with other paint ooks regular and smooth. also theres not one run or sag too, so i dont think i was too close, i spray a good 7-8" away. so i dunno, i like it!

Re: 1974 cl125 (huge update!)

nice man! i try to never use engine paint on anyting other than motors, it is made for metal and needs to heat up to final cure. but if you like the finish that is a whole new story! nice work man keep theprogress coming! i am stoked for that seat!

Re: 1974 cl125 (huge update!)

ah right on. maybe sitting out in the hot sun for a bit today will help haha.

heres a small preview of what i have so far too. the paint is dry today and you can tell its a little more consistant looking than when i took the wet pic.
