Congrats, advise: have the shortest engagement you can get away with, its best to get it over fast as possible, the more time you have, the more your plans will change.

AGREED. I had a lot of the logistic stuff (location, rehearsal plans, decoration provider, photographer) in place before I even proposed. Our engagement was 4 months and everything went off without a hitch. Well, we got hitched, but you know, it was easy. WIth all the big stuff taken care of, my fiance was able to focus on taking care of the bridesmaids and herself without stressing over all the other stuff.

Alright, still no real progress on the Kawasaki, but the 360 is almost back on the road!

But good news! I got a title for the Kawasaki! Super happy that worked out because it was a bit of a messy title situation.

Apparently I owned a motorcycle 12 years before I was even born! In my name and everything! Whoop!

Sometimes its good the DMV is so stupid, however they did spell my name wrong ofcourse which is the downside of them being so dumb.

But who cares! I have a title BOOM!

bump

anything else happening with this bike? i'm looking at an AX100 at the moment and you've given me a few little ideas....:D

Re: 1972 Kawasaki G4TR 100cc bucket racer project

No more progress on this bike unless you count further stripping.

All of my attention is on my 360 which is becoming more and more difficult. I Couldn't even put my new tyre on because my brakes are shot. SO ANNOYED.

Anyone know a good powdercoat / sandblasting guy near philly?

Thinking I may blast and paint the frame. - Baby Blue, with white vintage full body fairings.

Let me know,

Cheers,

Hey Leigh,

I went down to Newark, Delaware to get my frame powdered. This place called Prestige Powder Coating http://www.prestigepowder.com/

These guys work on big company contracts and do powder coating frames as a side project. They original quoted me for $300 and I asked if I can get a deal if I pay cash. I talked them down to $250. I recommend a friend too who got her scooter wheels powdered to match her panels and they nailed it. Top Quality Job. Tons of color options at no extra cost.

Oh and they will also blast it for you usually at no extra cost.

Re: 1972 Kawasaki G4TR 100cc bucket racer project

Thanks for the tip Ted. I found a place in north philly that does nice work for a little cheaper. I am not ready to have it coated just yet so I will keep my eye out for other places just in case in the meantime. Good to know how much cash I need for the future etc though.

Right now, I am stepping it up a notch. Time to get this motor rebuilt. I have all the parts, minus a new piston, but I have cleaned it up pretty good and it has new rings. I can always get a new piston for 30 bucks if I am sceptical. So hopefully I will have this motor done in the next week. It has been a crazy time for me recently, very busy. Getting married and having family over here and everything. Right now all of my efforts are dedicated to paper work... But at the end of that paperwork is the chance to become American so I have to get crackin on that for obvious reasons!

I may head on over to Big R's bbq in Pittsburgh this Saturday and bring the motor with me. It would be awesome to catch up with all those guys again and an added bonus to have their collective expertise around the engine. If not, the lady and I will work on the motor ourselves over the weekend and I will post up some photos soon.

The bucket racer project is BACK on track ladies and gentlemen!

If anyone near Philly wants to wrench next week let me know, we can work on a few things over some beers in my Garage. Let me know! I will put out an invite in the main forum as well.

Stay tuned.

Re: 1972 Kawasaki G4TR 100cc bucket racer project

Np. I'm game for wrenching. I am only able to get my hands dirty on my bike during the weekends. I'll help any way I can. call or txt me.

*bump*

Seeing the bike again after moving out got me really excited again about this build, even spent a while on google image search last night thumbing through Bucket Racer images.

This is a call for progress! Is the angle grinder still dow there?

Do it.

bob.

New piston and rings should arrive this week, hopefully the engine rebuild will be complete by next weekend all going well.

That right fork is toast, which is a real bummer, so I will have to find a replacement. No idea when or how that happened.

Found some good rear springs for 40 bucks, should be easy to shine them up.

Pretty much going to take it down 100% and move it into the attic of the new place after getting the frame powder coated. Then rebuild one thing at a time as it all needs to be replaced. I think I will leave the frame the size it is for right now, because I need to have a final decision on tank and seat combo. So, keeping my options open, but that being said it could afford to lose at least 3 inches in length. The angle grinder is still in the garage.

Good to see you're keeping on keeping on with this. Just one thing... don't chop the frame. You really don't need to - just fit a longer tank and go for the factory racer look. Failing that, make up a dummy rear tank piece out of fibreglass for the long tank look without the long tank.

The bikes small enough as it is, you don't need to find a way to make it smaller haha. Besides, an original frame would be a good thing to keep, especially if you want to enter any races with it.

Meanwhile mine is still seized, although I now know its only pieces of piston ring that is causing the seizure - the bore and piston are fine.

Cheers - boingk

Moved the bucket out of the garage and into the bedroom of my soon to be new place.

Some snazzy new parts arrived (seat, tires, rear light) so I thought I would share the latest mock up.

Those tires are 18" X 2.25" actually a little scary to see how thin that are. They are the same width as my wheels. I cannot help but think this may cause problems. I got them for a steal so they were at least worth a try and they look the business to boot!

Brand new piston and rings. I still cannot get a compressor small enough to fit them into the head. Havn't had a chance to go begging to local scooter shops yet.
