1977 CB550 Caferacer build

Hi all,

When in low low idle (below 1000 rpm) i hear my cam chain rattling.

Can someone tell me how to get to the cam chain tensioner, and how to tension it?

Thx!

Wish I had an answer, but you may have better luck posting a question like this in 1-800- café help or in the engines section.
You will reach a larger group of people looking at that thread than you will just people looking at this build thread. Bike is looking nice though, keep it up.

Retapped the wire for 4 exhaust studs. Got new ones in & smacked the exhaust on.

Next up is wrapping the exhaust with some heatwrap.

Started the bike again after 3 months. The right carb was already leaking so I cleaned the whole thing but it is still leaking...

As soon as I turn the gas on, it just poors out, out of the rubber tube below & out of the hole where you mount the air filter over .. Guess I need to adjust my floater

Let me know your thoughts about the bike / fuel leak issue!

Stuck/out of adjustment float, or dirty seat / damaged float valve. even the smallest spec of dirt can cause fuel to pass the valve or a slight nick in the rubber tip or o-ring can too.

Pushed the bike outside & fired it up :)

Some issues going on with starter / spark & adjusting carbs.

To be done later this week.

Working on paint as well :), just sanded the seat again.

Got some subtle plate lights installed, from eBay.

Doubting about color for seat & tank... Any ideas ? Maybe don't want to do Red. Needs to go with all the black though!

Looks very nice my friend. Well executed. Be safe on it and more importantly HAVE FUN!

I like it. I have a 550 as well. Got any pictures of how you mounted the battery and your seat?

Cool cool cool :p now that's a sweet looking ride 8) guess ya got the grin factor haha ;D

really needs a front end lift tho, looks unbalanced and surely is,the forks are sagging badly for one thing and with the lifted rear it must be a nervous nelly ,that is if you ever push it hard

There you are again with your standard "you did it wrong" opinion.

I raised my '78 CB750 up in the rear and lowered the front all the way to the same fork angle as a new CBR1000, and it rode so well I could drag a knee.

Why don't you ask the builder and rider how the bike rides, rather than diagnose and correct some problem you don't even know exists?

hah, i seen all kinda squids draggin knee, thats got zero to do with riding hard and fast
my main point is the forks are sagged half the travel gone just static, you aint gonna push ahrd into a bumpy corner with a saggy front

You're deflecting, not answering the question.
