When I need something sand blasted I just go to the local monument / tomb stone place and they shoot it for around $20. They even use the same rubber stuff that is used to outline the tomb stones to protect areas I don't want basted. They also can vary the intensity of the sand, from light to heavy, which reduces pitting. Comes out nice. Thats the only reason I don't have my own blasting setup. Hard to justify when you have a resource like that. Plus I think they like the change of pace from creating head stones all day. For small parts I have a jewelers media blaster which works well, but is only good for levers, emblems and other small items around 6" in length.

I would have never thought to go to a tomb stone place to get parts blasted. Then again, I probably never would have done it any ways because I'm cheap. I think I have about $14 invested in my blasting cabinet so far. Plus I just ordered a blasting kit for $25, plus gloves for $6. So that's less than $50 so far. Add in spare nozels and media and the cost increases but I was able to build this set up for very little money. It should be nice to have.

MBS,
I went to the post office today to ship your parts. I had to build a box to fit everything. Let's just say that it's "creative" looking. Apparently, the post office won't ship anything in beer cases. So I brought it home and spraypainted it. I have a feeling that since they won't ship anything with beer labels on it, they aren't going to ship something that smells like fresh paint either. So, barring anymore problems, I'll be shipping it tomorrow.

LOL, Beer cases! :D No worries I am not in a rush. When ever you get around to it is fine. Just make sure you pack it well and nothing is leaking or anything, otherwise it will never get here. They are pretty strict about that kind of thing. ::) But really, no rush I am not going anywhere or starting on my 400 any time soon, not until mid summer anyway. -MBS

Fucking Mud!

I got my chain in the mail today. I got it installed and adjusted, got the bike outside and it wouldn't run. I took the carbs off and cleaned them again and it fired up. Rode the bike through the path I had shoveled through the yard and started to go up a small incline and... nothing. I couldn't get fucking anywhere because the grass is so wet. I tried several things and was not able to get up this fucking hill. I'm so pissed. Tomorrow I'm going to go out early in the hopes that the ground will have frozen over night. If that doesn't work, I'll buy a couple piece of plywood and try to ride up those.

Yep - never go for a test ride downhill. Always works better to start off going up, so coming down is easy, running or not :)

Would have made for a great video - winter hill climbing.

Yeah, getting up the hill sucked but I did it. It took 3 people pushing and sliding in the mud. The turns signals don't work, the front brake light switch stopped functioning for some reason, the clipons are hitting the gas tank, I don't have a seat cushion and the bike won't rev over 4,000 rpm. Besides that, it's great! I was able to go for a ride down to the gas station. I'm going to try getting the rest of the problems sorted out today.

On another note, full fenders are kinda nice when it's muddy out. I'm whishing that I didn't shop the rear fender so short.

I got the turn signals and brake lights working and fiddled with the carbs and it's running pretty well now. It definitely needs more tuning but at least it's running. I'm happy with the new gearing. The rear tire spun a bit accelerating in 1st gear. That was a big shock. ;D I've still got some cosmetic work to do on the bike but that can wait until after I've ridden it a while. It's so nice to be able to get out and ride.

Looks great!! My CM has just been sitting around... Spend more time parting out bikes than working on mine lol
