1979 KZ650 build - "Painters Tape"

Yeah! That's the shiznit!

You got me inspired to get cracking on my paint... just got back from lunch with a load of paint, filler, clear ....

hoping for a start up tomorrow or friday with a shake down run on sunday..
if everything goes as planned...

got the power now.. dyna s elctronic ignition to dyna green coils and dyna 7mm copper wires..
they only had red in stock.. black was on back order... probably electrical tape them or spray em for summer... then get a black set on the big over haul this coming winter...

the black lines are electrical tape for visual (the black would wrap all the way around.)

Looks great, I kinda like the fatter lines too, maybe go just an eighth inch narrower, should look good.

Looks good. Def need the black pin-stripe, but yeah. Very smart.

I agree, both variations look great but I like the one with the black the most. Nice work Beard.

The black stripe needs to be fatter that the "paintchop"!

I would say also that will be win if you do a "multiple stripe" like that:

Cheers

while its not absolutey perfect..
i think its pretty darn good for a computer guy.
its really hard to do, i know that.

Dunno man, I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit.....looks sweet!
The colors are pretty evocative too.....

thanks for the positive comments.. seems like everything takes me a long time. and half the time im really unsure of what the heck im actually doing.. the main reason i like these boards is most people do their own work.. seems like a growing percentage of men these days dont have the confidence to do new stuff. i can appreciate and prefer a guy trying to do something and having all the imperfections compared to slinging cash to a pro.

got the tires put on thurs...
was nervous about taking it to the local dealer to get inspected today..first time the random public and motorcycle guys would see it..

i pulled in and after the first tech saw it, he started calling people over.. the word started to get around the place and everyone was coming to see it. im not really into that whole thing.. i said thank you and kinda slinked off to the show room.. but it was very rewarding even with all its flaws to know it was all done by me... to see that people enjoyed it and my time and work was kind of verified..
now i dont care about what other people think.. i build for me and enjoy the time..

really i wouldnt tell anyone else of this stuff.. but i know u guys would truely understand what im talking about.

anyways..people seem to like it.. i only see the flaws and things i need to change.. but it was a good day.. got positive comments everwhere i went.. all the harley and hardley guys wouldnt give me a second look as i passed.. :) pretty much.. mission accomplished.

have a great weekend everyone.. and i thank all of you for either your help (ex. herrdeacon) or just general inspiration on all the awesome bikes that are coming out of this place.

need to finish up the seat cushion.. then its ride all summer.. this winter ill pull the motor clean it / paint / polish what have you.. not sure im gonna know what to do with myself this summer without a bike to work on.. but im sure all the grass and other BS i have going on will keep me busy..

You sound a lot like me Beard. I build them to suit myself and appreciate any interest in it, but not overly comfortable with the attention. However, it is a good feeling knowing others appreciate your work and style.

Look forward to seeing it all completed with the seat cushion.
