1979 KZ650 build - "Painters Tape"

Just read through this build. Nice work man! I like the way you fabbed up your frame to make that seat sit flat. Being a welder I constantly find myself examining welds. Great job, you passed the test. :)

Just threw some foam on to get out riding plus practice on how to sand the foam.
have to get the number 2's on.. fit the seat pan and do the final foam. then ill be done for the summer..
winter ill pull the motor.. new seals and paint. fiddle with little things i want to change.. polish stuff..
probably gonna go with a small and thinner tail light.

Sweet! .... Beard.

How do you find the riding position? I've been riding mine a bit lately and have a similar set up... (i.e. clubmans - maybe yours are clip-ons?, stock controls etc) I'm not tall, but I find it a tad awkward with my feet/ legs straight down and then leaning over to the bars.

I'm thinking the next project will be rearsets... some day :)

Anyway - I really dig your build!

thanks
well my cuz from the beginning was a comfort freak over this build.
last weekend he rode it for 30mins and said it was very comfortable.
he even said he had more fun riding it over his sv650 and offered to buy my bike.

i think if u go to rear sets u will put even more weight over the tank.. aka on your wrists.
that being said.. ill be doing rearsets this winter.

i have clip ons.. im 5'11" in socks

Mr.Beard, that looks fantastic...hell I dig your tail light too, doesn't stand out too bad on this end. As long as the rearsets are under 'the package' more or less and not crammed way high I think you'll be golden. However if all you're doing is short blasts (under an hour)...who knows, maybe you really wouldn't want'm.
Regardless....dig the bike!

I like one of the wide latin ones, they all look good. But i would go with the first one so that when you put it on the opposite sides they look the same and don't lean in different directions.

I'm going to agree with haplo_84 for the same reason. The first "wide latin" number two looks the best to me. Are you placing it within the yellow area or centered on the side of the hump?

Looks great Beard-O. Really does.

Honestly I dont love any of those twos. Sorry for the non-help there.

Hey Beard, just been fishing through your build thread, nice work! Like the colour choice. The bike is definately looking classic cafe racer style! I tried to find out in your thread, maybe I missed it in there somewhere, but what type of fibreglass seat is that? I'm looking for one for my XS and that looks like it may just fit the bill...
Cheers

exact seat i have is....CB75021M with the pan.

take your time.. take your measurements.. click on all the seats and and look at the drawings.. make a spread sheet... plan on shorting the seat and guesstimating the sizes after u cut.. all that will make for a well thought out looking bike...

not saying mine is... but this was the 3rd street bike that i have owned and worked on.. and it wasnt till this one.. i got my permit then license..
while im starting to learn to like riding... i still prefer to work/plan/vision on bikes over riding them.. if im gonna "ride" them.. i need another bike.. my friend just got a bmw 1100ga and truely its a dream.. it seems to stand it self.. and i can see putting 600+ miles a day on that bike.

shes a mess right now.. i got alot planned for this winter..
what i cant stand is ur typical person.. they know of 2 bikes.. u either have a harley or a ninja.. our bikes really throw them off..

-ohh you ride motorcyles?
ummm yeah
-is that new?
no its a '79
-ohh really? u bought it that way?
umm no.. it look like a typical 70's bike, i put some work into it.
-ohh ok
then i feel the urge to get them to understand the change, the plan, the vision, the work.. aka this Cafe cowboy

i think o well....
