That would be different which is always fun but won't the headlight itself cast an oddly shaped beam? The pattern would be mostly vertical I'd think? You might use the rectangle vertically but use two small round projector beam lights stacked ala Ducati 999?
Cheers, 50gary

This. It will be nearly useless at night. And rectangle headlights are horrible looking. Haha. Keep up the killer work man! Cool bike for sure.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Thanks for the tips, I am redoing the tail now, the old one was off kilter and even though no one else would probably ever notice it was bugging me. I am also making it a bit wider in back. Looked to skinny from the rear, am definitely open to other suggestions for tail shapes though. I like the one i already did, but if I could do one better, I would like to give it a shot.

Its funny I never noticed the tank and tail not flowing, but now that it is mentioned, I totally see it. Will have to do something about that.

Know that it will probably get me banned from DTT but I am keeping the square headlight. I make a mount and fairing for it yesterday that I really like.

As for updates, I threw some FZR600 clip ons on there, the stock ones were too tall for my tastes. Got the carbs rebuilt and cleaned up, installed pod air filters, and got the battery box and most electrics hooked up.
Still got to rebuild both master cylinders which leak, and get the gas cap broken loose. Any suggestions for this? I have been soaking it in penetrating oil with no change.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

If it's a metal cap try a little heat(emphasis on a little, we don't want to create a bomb with old gas fumes in the tank ;)) and then spray it with the penetrating lube. It causes a capillary action that will suck the penetrating oil up into the threads.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

No luck on the gas tank, It seems like the key is just not going in all the way. But I made the new tail, and am toying with the idea of having a little spoiler on the end, I want something to kind of break it up, so the tail doesn't seem so big a square. Opinions?

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't really like the spoiler idea. Yeah the tail is kinda big and bulky but with paint and padding it should fit in a little better. It's purely aesthetic and completely your decision on whether the spoiler stays or not, but I would say nix it. Other than that, I really like it.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Yeah, I am kinda on the rocks about it, thinking maybe a paint job with pin stripes or something will be good.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

i love the belly pan.....angular!!

too be honest i like the look of the older smaller tail section....
it makes the back wheel look bigger.....(but thats just my style and what i like)

i have seen a spoiler that looked good on another bike.....but theres something not quite right about this one....
i like the fact you're thinking outside the square though...

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

I really like the belly pan too, unfortunately I am gonna have to lose it, with the bike off the center stand the pan is way too low, and probably gonna rip off with the first large bump. Might make a new one though that sits higher.

I did a quick photoshop to see what it looks like upholstered and painted and I think it is much better. Am gonna lose the spoiler though.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Yeah, have the belly pan up quite a bit, and have it "cutout" around the big bulky stator cover. So the pan actually sits halfway up the stator cover and the same height around the exhaust. Realistically the bottom of the belly pan should be just slightly lower than the exhausts so that you don't really lose any ground clearance.

Edit: I just read this and it sounds funny, I'm keeping it as-is. :p

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Yeah, I would probably have to make a new one in order to do that, considering it would have to bend way out, but I took it off and I like it, might just leave it off. We will see.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Finally Got the tank open, key/lock was fine it was just super sticky and forcing it did the job. HOWEVER, I think someone soaked the tank in bleach then immediately used a terrible sealer because there is now something living inside my gas tank! I think it is trashed, even if I somehow got all of the silicone like coating out of there, I would then have to sand blast the rust out, then coat it again. Probably not worth it. Found one on ebay for $100. If anyone has any other suggestions, i am open. Thanks!

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

fill tank with ball bearings......
wrap tank in old towels....
put in tumble dryer for an hour....

never done it but ive heard its good.....

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

friend of mine used apple cider vinegar (its more corosive than the regular stuff) to get the rust out of an otherwise trashed tank worked like a charm and didnt take much effort fill walk awaay check every day or so leave it for few daya.. a week rinse and coat. not sure how it would fare with tbe slime you got cultivating its forces to plot a world take over in there though... sleep with one eye open ..

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

I don't actually have a dryer and that probably wouldn't fare too well with the laundromat people, but I will give the vinegar process a try after I figure a way of removing the old sealer. Thanks

On a separate note, I have done a decent amount of work on the new tail light, just waiting on the ridiculously bright amber LEDs for the integrate turn signals. Got a set of 10 for .99 shipped on ebay. Don't know how they make a profit.

let me know if you can;t see the video.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Well, I ordered a new tank, that will need some sealer, but at least there isn't a swamp monster living in it. Just need to decide on paint. I think I want to use the duplicolor "specks" paint but not sure on the color.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

Got my new amber leds in. Geez, those suckers were $1.16 a piece at Radioshack but I got 10 of them for $.99 on ebay. i love ebay.
Anyways, I wired them in with a 270 ohm 1/2 watt resistor and they work great. Got the whole tail light working like a charm with the excepting of a bug in the wiring keeping the power from getting to the running light plug, but it should be an easy enough fix.

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

that ass end is just so........square.....

i dont want to be "that" guy.....but

i think that tail light/ass end would look nice with a little curve in it somewhere....

(i do like big curvy butts though)
ah

Re: The Ferrous Mistress

I like the silver too. So I have finished painting the fairing, fender and a few other bits. Did them with Duplicolor Metal Specks, then clear coated with krylon fusion and wet sanded then polished. I think they came out very well. never been able to get a very good result with rattle can, so I am happy. Will do the tank with the same paint, then clear with Spraymax 2k so as not to have any issues with gas spillage.

The specks paint worked well, just had to wet sand before clear, but my only problem with it is that it would constantly clog the tips while spraying. really annoying, so I just had to keep changing tips. When I do the tank, I think I might empty the spray can into a bottle and then use my spray gun to apply it. Think that might work better, and also get a nicer spray pattern.
