Ive been toying with using the stuff on another project of mine. A guy I know was telling me how real the stuff looks... Looking forward to seeing how this comes out. Nice little trick!
Valentines Day Update :-* :-* :-* ....... Last weekend I installed the handlebars and rear wheel and finally got my tank back from the painter. I will be taking the tank to be striped tomorrow. White with silver flake racing stripe and two green pinstripes down the side of the main stripe. The stripe will match the slightly funky hand grips which I bought from Ferracci for two bucks. Will start cleaning and polishing more parts tomorrow and put them on the bike as I go. I am going to have to dive into the wiring harness and try to salvage it when the weather gets cold again..... I can do that in my basement. Also, I am working on a list of the small things I need (emblems, decals, etc) so I can order them as cash becomes available. Next on the list is to redo the shocks..... clean, paint, and polish..... then install them and the centerstand so the bike will be a roller again. If the weather holds I will be well on my way by the weekend. Pics will follow soon. Wish me luck and don't be afraid to flame me if I don't get off my lazy a$$.........
Hey Dale, I am going to do my turn signal covers for the SS I am starting to work on with the carbon di-noc sheathing. Will post some pics and start a new build thread for that bike in the next few days. It seems like my builds go a lot faster if I work on two at once since I can work on one of them if I get hung up and need to wait on parts for the other. Also, I like to work on small money making projects, which just take a day or two for friends and customers. Can't build anything without cash even if you do it yourself... as we all know.
Well consider yourself flamed pal. Wheres the pics!!!
All sounds good though.
I'm with you on the staggered build thing, it keeps momentum. This is my exact problem I'm dealing with right now.
Very interested to see how the turn signals come out - how do you do it on such curved surfaces?
Looking forward to the new thread too. Hey I love those CB builds as much as the next guy, but nice to have some variation in here...
Dale, I will try and get some pics today after I do my other errands and clean house. My wife works and I don't (retired) so I get to do the house cleaning :-[ :-[ :-[ . The carbon di-noc is not like any other vinyl covering that I know of. You peel the back off just like a regular decal or sticker....... then heat it with a blow dryer which allows it to stretch around curves and corners. When it cools it is formed to whatever shape you stretched it into. You can also cut it and match up the pattern when it is applied. Pretty cool stuff. I will have my painter put a coat of clear on it and it should look identical to a carbon part. As a bonus, it also increases the strength of whatever it is applied to. While I am taking pics of my 500 I will also take some of the 900 for the other thread. I like CBs' also and have one lined up for another project which I will start after I finish with my three ducs. My last duc will be a 78' bevel drive 900 GTS done up in 900 SS bodywork and paint. I have purchased all the necessary bodywork and have done the wheels and mounted the tires. About 95% of the other parts have been purchased also, just going to finish the other two first. On my CB 750 I have calculated that if I just make it a cafe that I can do it for about $1000-1200 total....... or I can turn it into a CR750 race replica (which would be really cool) for about 3000-3500 dollars including purchasing all the bodywork. After I get the Honda done...... I have a $225 BSA which is going to be another cafe bike..... projected build cost on it is $1500-2000 depending on engine work needed. Hopefully, I will have all these done by fall of next year. The two ducs should be done by the middle to end of summer...... 8) 8) 8) .
All my friends make fun of me for the housework deal. When washing the dishes I use my manly parts washing heavy duty rubber gloves :-[ :-[ :-[ . Here are some pics of what I have done so far.... the tank and seat are just sitting on the bike. I have the tank and fairing in the truck to take to have them striped tomorrow. Will take the seat to be redone tomorrow also . Pics following this post......
Disassembled my shocks, cleaned, prepped, and painted. Now waiting for the paint to dry so they can be put together. I don't know about the rest of you, but I always have a hard time cleaning the insides of my chrome shock springs when detailing them for a build. I now clean the rust from the inside as well as I can and then paint the inside of the spring silver (rustoleom works great) by spraying the paint down the center of the shocks. The over spray on the outside chrome can be cleaned with "00" steel wool for a lustrous shine 8) ......
WOW. Great pics! It looks like you're having a lot of fun on that thing... Love the bike. Its going to be interesting seeing the fairing on.
That engine is looking beautiful man!
Crap I wish I could retire, and have that quality time to do all this great stuff. Its worth doing the dishes every once in a while! Looks like the weather is giving you a break as well. That's going to be a very nice bike.
Hard to tell from the pics, but what colour is that? The Ducati logo is going to pop nicely on that tank...
Shocks are looking pretty cool too.
Very inspiring.
Retirement is great...... but I would rather be working and have the heart I was born with , which was in excellent shape until infected with a virus in 2001. The color is Torch Red, a GM color which is extremely close if not an exact match to Ferrari red. Translucent pearl red is sprayed over the torch red. In sunlight the paint is a brilliant cinnamon, but changes to deep red in the shade. I dropped the tank and fairing off today to get it striped...... white down the middle with two small green pinstripes on the sides. The weather was great today...... upper 60's. I had to go on a ride with my pals..... put about 150 miles on my "glide" riding up the Ohio River on the Ohio side..... eating at Bob Evans original restaurant on his farm in Rio Grande.... then riding home through the country and having a cup at our local Jolly Pirate before heading for the house. It was perfect 8) 8) 8) . Tomorrow...... take the seat to be recovered, cafe style with a large hump. Black with red welts and a flying "D" jacket patch sewn on the back. Put my shocks together and mount them. Put all the nuts and bolts in my tumbler to polish and clean them, clean and shine header pipes, maybe even put the entire exhaust on the bike, and hopefully clean, sand, and paint my foot peg brackets and fairing mount. All that and walk the dog, clean house, and.....uhhhhh.... do the dishes :-[ :-[ :-[ .
Today I put my shocks together and they look like new ;D . The header pipes, crossover pipes, and exhaust clamps were cleaned and polished. They are ready to go on the bike. I took my seat to be recovered and that will take about three weeks...... probably four. It is costing me $200, not to bad for a custom made seat. Tank and fairing are at the detail shop getting racing stripes. I cleaned and took the paint off several parts today including the chain guard. I can never get parts to turn out good when I paint them unless they are taken down to bare metal first. I use two kinds of spray bomb paint for small things. Rustoleum semi gloss in different colors (usually black and silver) and a local paint shop will mix any color of the old enamel style car paint and put it in a spray can for me. This stuff is great for frames.... I had them mix me up some gloss black and used it on my bobber project, it turned out looking like a paint shop had done it. I put all my old nuts and bolts in the tumbler to clean them and ran them for a couple of hours, still not clean enough for me. I will have to hit them with the wire brush on my buffer to complete the job. That is it for today...... I will try and get some pics tomorrow and post them ......
The wife :-* is not working today so we ran around all day together ..... even took a short ride on the "glide" for lunch 8) . I didn't get to work on the bike today :'( , but did get some pics of what was accomplished yesterday.....

That's awesome man. Always nice to go out for a ride like that. That's what its all about.
The updates are amazing. That colour scheme is going to be great. I guess when you've got so many Ducati's, the obvious red starts making way for more interesting choices..
No use having a bunch of bikes if you don't use one every chance ya' get. I pick up the striped tank on Wednesday and the new Honda 550 on Tuesday. Guess I will start a new thread for the 550 as soon as it is warmer. I have to detail it outside so it has to be at least 70+ degrees. It shouldn't take me long to build..... I already have almost all the parts I will need ;D ;D ;D ......
