66 CB450

Hey guys, I figured I'd start a build thread and ask a couple questions. I'm working on a cb450 basket case I got for free, so far I mated the front and rear end from a ex250 to what's left of the cb450 frame. Made new neck cups with taper bearings and narrowed the swingarm to fit the frame then bushed it to fit the 450 swingarm shaft. Also chucked the rear hub up and faced some off to move the rear sprocket inboard to line up up with drive sprocket.

So here's where it goes downhill. Started on the motor tonight. Apparently my pistons are 4th oversized (71mm) and the jugs are like 14th over (73.5mm) !!! With some surface rust. I was hoping to get some opinions on which direction to take the motor.

I can try and get these jugs resleeved, although I haven't found much about that or cost for it. Then find a set of stock pistons and rings.

Try and find a set of jugs that are bored 1mm over, or that I can bore to 1mm over and just get rings.

Or bore this to 74mm and build something like the Henning stuff, as soon as I can get my lottery ticket turned in.

Been busy with work lately but keeping this in back of my mind. RCC I think your right, I'm going to see about getting a set of rings to match my 1mm over pistons and get a set of jugs to bore over. Need to get valve seats recut I think, whoever sandblasted the head head didn't know to tape things off, so will have to make a trip to machine shop anyway.

Found a 520 front sprocket from CycleX that will work, and stripped the carbs down at lunch. They are actually in good shape and should be like new after a gasket kit.

So since I'm short on funds for parts this month I think I'll start fabbing the foot controls or making some new carb boots. I haven't seen much in the way of new carb boots out there so I'm thinking of machining some new mount plates out of aluminium with a stub so so I can attach the carbs via a short piece of appropriate hose or o-ring and clamp setup. I would like to do an o-ring setup but I'm worried about vibration rattling the carbs apart.
