Looking nice, where did the PO of your donor bike keep it stored? In his salt water aquarium!

Thanks Twisted - it's from Jersey so I think he snagged it out of the ocean while deep sea fishing and thought "Hey, I have a nice motor, wheels, and forks that will fit on that!"

MAN! I love the inlayed speedo - Ive gotta do something like that man

I would actually like a "floating" effect using the original chrome U shaped bracket that mounts underneath. Just a matter of finding a way to bolt it up from underneath that won't interfere with the clip-ons I'm going to get. And I soda blasted and painted my carbs using the same high temp paint that's on my side covers. Probably still melt off once they spill some gas on em. Just remember - you can't tape off TOO much on the carbs when your blasting and painting. I used a lot of tape and zip ties to try and keep everything out.

And thanks Louis - I'm waiting for my seat to come in from GFTP. So once it's painted I'll put the new wheels on and roll the whole thing outside and take some pics.

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Oh, and Von - one of the guys that I work with is real big into Harleys. Has all the shirts, hats, etc. but is totally cool about everybody NOT having one too. We were talking about that phrase "Live to ride, ride to live" and he said it should be "Live to ride, but work overtime to buy" :D

Just a though about the rear fender deal... On my 350, which is street only, im cutting a plastic front fender fron an old xs500 in half. Than im welding an 90deg angle bracket onto the swingarm. Some bolts, locknuts, and rubber washers, and it should hold quite well. Itll only be about 6" - 8" long b/c of clearence issues but it should stop most of the crap from makin its way forward. Once its painted black and mounted nice and tight on the tire it will be barely noticable. An old plastic dirtbike fender would work well also, as a lot of then are a more rounded shape.

i'm messing with my rear fender right now as well. not sure what material i want to go with. my big thing is will plastic be to flimsy and flap around or will the alum viberate. swapmeet had a nice rear fender set up also saw another good set up with the OG rear fender on a 360 but i don't remember who the bike belongs to now. the plastic is a great idea because i want to keep things light.

von if you get photos could you shoot me some that would help me out a lot.

thanks guys keep the builds up

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Chris, I talked about it somewhere before (maybe even in my build) but I tried a plastic panel for a rear splash guard. Just cut a rectangular section out of a trash can and drilled 4 holes to zip tie it to the frame.

At the time I had 41 year old shocks (basically just springs) and the first decent bump I hit the rear tire slammed into the plastic and sheared the zip ties. Might work better with decent shocks though.
I think Tim's XS is the one that has a polished panel held on with P clamps

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Yay! New parts! Ordered some Motobits for a CB160 cuz of my old style peg mounts

And the brake peg is clear of the kickstart (the kickstart is off the donor, old one wouldn't have made it)
IMG00573.jpg

I know I'm going to have to bend and shorten my brake linkage, but is there any actual purpose to the spring on here? Couldn't I get 2 nuts and put one on each side of the arm on the wheel?

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Rich - Looks awesome dude!

The spring on the linkage is just to keep pressure on that lobed adjuster. Id Keep it - since you can use it as intended when your brakes begin to wear.

OR - Replace the whole thing with a new linkage, and a heim joint in place of the lobed adjuster. Im gonna do that on mine since the Motobits come with a Z shapes linkage to clear the shock - problem is its not the most heavy duty piece of metal - so Im gonna replace it with a straight, larger gauage bar with the heim at the end to reduce flex, and improve brake response.

Re: 68 Honda CL175

I keep forgetting to ask - can you take a couple pics of your brake linkage? I have no problem cutting mine and welding it back together but wanna see how the bend is from Moto.

Mine is actually set up for a cable operated rear brake

Re: 68 Honda CL175

This weekend sucks - from putting up insulation yesterday, went to see a play today, and I have a doctors appt. tomorrow morning. But for the good news.... got my seat in! Still needs trimmed to fit, padded, and painted but it's finally here! A big thanks to Swapmeet Louie - I was hesitant about this seat until I saw it on his bike

Also took my brake linkage into work to have it shortened:

I also took my new centerstand in and had it blasted at work but I am going weld up a new stopper on the top of it so it doesn't bang on my swingarm. Nothing exciting so no pic of that

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Looks great. Thats a good shot for giving us an idea of what itll look like done. Really sharp scheme dude. Love the sloper! So racey

Re: 68 Honda CL175

NICE!!! Looking good man! That seat is pretty cool. Fits in with the sorta dual purpose look well.

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Thanks guys, but everything is probably gonna slow down for a bit. At least buying parts anyway - trying to get my grubby little hands on a basket case for a bobber.

Ah..... my first love.

Ordered a set of clipons but after they come in, it's gonna be polishing, cleaning, and installing. Which is still plenty to do

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Here soon you might know a guy with a POS Suzuki 650 with no title.

This weekend has been too long. Starting rigging up the electronics and when I checked for spark at the points, couldn't help but notice the camshaft wasn't spinning. Master link on the chain popped out and bent all to hell! Yay!

But on a brighter note, my center stand works.

What kinda Suzuki650? Thats a bummer about the cam chain brother... Its fixable though.

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Same as I already have - 83 GR 650. The "Tempter" model (terrible name for a bike). Figured even if it isn't titled, it's still a crap load of impossible to find parts.

Cam chain sucks but you're right - it's fixable. Just annoying since I really didn't plan on plopping that motor out again for a while. Any luck on finding a titled frame for that 250?

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Ya having to pull the motor again sucks. Sorry man. No title... Yet. Im workin' some other angles...

Re: 68 Honda CL175

I really shouldn't cry about pulling the motor - 1st of all it's almost definately my fault that it came loose and 2nd it's probably the easiest motor in the world to pull out. But here's what I did last night/this morning:

IMG00580.jpg

Put the rubbers on the tank, put the badges back on (wrong sides but just to get them off the shelf), polished and mounted the forks and front wheel from the donor bike, and started pondering about the rear brake light switch and the taillight mount. I really didn't want to mount the taillight to the seat but it's looking like my best option right now. That brake light switch is something else though, probably have to machine a bracket to put it onto the rearset. Oh well, back to work

Funny little story - after doing some research online I think the cam chain for this bike is what is used as the drive chain in go-karts. Still gonna call the dealer later though.

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Couldnt you just get a switch that mounts on the return spring for the rearset?

Re: 68 Honda CL175

Check out the last page of Nate's CB200remix thread. He's got a pretty slick switch set up.
