maybe bring up alot of black? Kinda like replacing the blue to black from the KH one. Maybe put the numbers really deep in the paint job. So it looks like its life waaaaaaay back was a racer. Though after the races he was picked up & fixed up rebuilt & loved....though as time goes on & the love fades. The badass racer comes back!
So... Rearsets will be here in a couple days. Im excited to get them setup. Still workin on the paint. Im changing it up a good deal thanks to all your suggestions. Im hoping it turns out as cool as the seat. I really like how that came out. I hit it with some polishing compoud and it looks cool. Not too shiny, but cool. I have to get the forks cleaned up a bit, and fix the neck bearing still ( ) but it comin along.
So, I found this while looking for some new ideas for another project. It is now the inspiration for the paint on the 350. It wont be the same, but its so close to whats been bouncing around in my head for weeks now, its uncanny... Even the lettering on the back of the tank. I just had an idea session with my buddy whos going to do the striping/lettering anf its like we were describing this tank. Weird!
The question now is, do you think I should add some red to the seat somehow? Im cool with keeping it black and white, but would love to hear your opinions... Thanks.
Yes. Maybe? You have to tie the back to the front, somehow ??? I love to think there are a million ways, but color is probably the easiest/best way to do it.
I don't know what to tell you about the red on the seat. Are you leaving the tank distressed red with a couple of decals or were you thinking of doing some striping like what's in that pic? Either way, we got faith in ya!
Im in... Your a good shit Joe. I dont care what everyone else says about you. I just tell em', some guys just like the feel of ladies underwear. That doesnt make him a bad guy!
Ok friends... Here she is. Still a lot of sanding/distressing/polishing, etc... BUT, This is the scheme. Ya, Joe, I know the finish isnt great... Theres a good bit of work to do before I can clear it and call it done. I think its cool... Very 70s racer...
And yeah, i know theres some overspray on the black, but itll sand out when I do the "distressing". Had a hole in my paper that I missed. Whoops... :
Ya trying to distress a solid RED tank just didnt cut it... The white is a cheap paint that scuffs and feathers really cool. Fading isnt a real worry since it'll just add to the "look". Its baking in between some heaters now. Once its set up a bity more ill start hitting it with the sandpaper and steel wool.
man after all is said and done, go to the hobby store and get some brass or iron leafing... same as the gold syle leafing people use on the chopppers. do some numbers or something in that... would really look cook on the look
I do have to say, it does look cool, i would say the leafing i was talkign about would be out of place, instead spraypaint some numbers or something on the side using just a rough paper stencil and dust it... would look awesome... man that is looking great!
Thanks Joe... Im pretty happy with it. I dig the numbers idea. Needs something else... I have those bitchin NGK decals that might come into play. Not sure yet. Layed a light coat of clesr to protect the spots where its down to the metal. Once its cured after the holidays ill hand buff the shit outta the thing. Should come out looking like someone found it and cleaned it up. Youll still see faint scratches in the paint, but theyll look natural.
Thanks Diesel! It was a one "experiment" that actually worked out. Paired with the seat covered in old beat up leather and the paint I did on it, everything should come together alright... Now I have to "distress" all the other little parts I spent a bunch of time making pretty... : Oh well. Its different and thats what I wanted.
