73 BMW R75/5

a garage sale!!! dang man that's a great find. I usually only find crap at garage sales. That KZ looks great too i am thinking of buying one how is it, handling/power compared to say a cb350

Love it HD. I have in the back of my mind doing something with an h2 engine some day.

Brian I am using Ballas machine. They are visible on the left when you cross the tracks into lakeside on glen side drive. First left, first left over the tracks. They were highly recommended with all the guys at the bike show yesterday.

Great find (even better that it was a neighbor, lol). I have a '73 R75/5 sitting in the garage, waiting patiently in line behind a CM400 build I'm doing for my wife. I'll be watching your progress as I continue to refine the direction for my restoration.

Cheers!

Cool, and welcome. This one I plan to get running first making no changes. Parts are expensive, the pistons alone are over $400. Once it is mechanically sound I may begin modifications. Parts are currently on order from the UK so progress is on hold. Hopefully I can get it running in a few weeks. Stay tuned :)

Yea,I have to do an over bore so replacing both. Sucks caus one side was perfect.

Great progress so far. Glad you were able to get the piston out. Re: the carbs, as you said, it depends. The best way for you to find out for sure is to get your hands on the Bing manual. You can order it directly from them for $11. Well worth it, in my opinion. I actually just recently rebuilt mine for the first time. They definitely had a spring. Removed from the carb it was like six inches in length. As I had never done it, and only rebuilt a handful of other carbs, I ordered both the manual as well as a DVD Bing offers that walks you through the rebuild.

When you get it running you can sync the carbs with a manometer made out of a yard stick, clear PVC tubing and ATF if you don't have a proper unit. The Bing manual also outlines that process.

Oak's Top End Manual is a really nice resource that covers the whole top end on these dudes.

Sorry I missed your question regarding the KZ400 power. Its fun to ride but my buddy Barkers cb354 pulls it a bit off the light, I would assume the twin would be comparable. If you ride it like a 400 its fun all day, if you ride it like a 750, you will be disappointed. :)

***ATTN*** Everyone check my link for Daytona and lets start making plans.

Man, there are a ton of yard sales in my neighborhood every Saturday but they never have anything as cool as that Beemer. What the deuce?

I dunno, don't sell your KZ short... I had a CB350 Four and it was different animal from it's two cylinder siblings. Even my mates who own 350 twins were impressed with that little screamer. :)

Yup. Whole other animal.

I would LOVE to get my hands on a 350 four.. Heaps jelly.

Poor Lil Sister, the guy that bought her joined here right away but never kept up on his thread... :(
