'73 CB350 Build Thread

Good news! The Gentlemen I bought the bike from has a few other CB tanks laying around and offered to trade me back. :) Crisis averted!

Gary - I think I'd be interested in your clubmans. I dont want to buy something before I can sit on a bike with a similar setup since I have no baseline as to what kind of setup I'd like.

Not a problem Matt. It will probably be 2-3 weeks before i get my clip ons and do the swap. Then I just have to figure out how I want to clean up, or shave the top tree.

I got your name on them when they come off. You can mock them up and if they don't work out for you no obligation.

Sounds good. That timeframe is perfect. Im in absolutely no rush when it comes to the bars. Thanks again.

I re-soaked my carbs today in original scene Pine-Sol to see if it'd work better than the Lemon scent. Verdict is in and after only 2 hours the parts are already cleaner than they did after 48 hours in Lemon scent. Pretty rad, IMO.

Isn't it awesome? And you avoid getting cancer from the nasty carb cleaning chemicals and can in good conscience pour it down your drain. I'm glad to hear it worked out for you!

Here's the results!

LET THIS BE A NOTE TO ALL PINESOL NEWBS. USE THE ORIGINAL SCENT. NOTHING ELSE WORKS AS WELL.

Keep in mind, that's only after 3 hours. Will get them out tomorrow afternoon!

What's this about pine sol and carbs? I have a set I need to clean.

Should post up in the $50 mod thread.

Soak your carbs in original scent Pine-Sol to clean them. Completely disassemble the carb and let it soak until it's clean basically. Mine were pretty grimy and in just 24 hours they look brand new.

Damn, I thought everyone knew about this...it's how I've got all my carbs so squeaky clean and also got in the Christmas season! ;D

My recipe is four parts PineSol to one part very hot water. You do have to watch out for rubber and plastic, however. Some rubber is rejuvenated, other rubber is eaten alive.

Turns out I didn't order my seat. RocCity is currently full and not accepting new orders. I might just run it with the stock seat and no new rear-sets for awhile.

QUESTION For those taller riders out there, will be I somewhat comfy riding with the stock seat and clubmans/clips ons and OEM foot controls? Or would I be more comfortable going ahead and getting rear sets and a cafe seat? Im 6'4 with a 34" inseam.

The reason it works so well is that it dissolves aluminium. So it either works really well or destroys your carbs. What works _really_ well is carburetor cleaner.

I see AlphaDogChopperstrying to spread the word on this one frequently - it's a bad plan. I've had a bucket of carb clean for years that still works.

So what's the thought on vinegar then? I've been soaking all my rusty parts in it straight overnight, but is it disolving the aluminum also?? (not changing topics or anything... just a side question)

I clean all my "rusty" chrome with vinegar, but I have never let a part sit in there overnight. I would say this will cause some damage, about an hour on the back of my aircon in the shed and the vibrations and the vinegar do their thing.

Traded out my tank for another cb350 that has both fuel outlets installed. Woot! Also will be ordering a slipstream cycle works seat before too long. It's been as cold as a witch's titty lately, so progress has been slow. Will update this week since we're expecting some warm weather.
