'73 CB350 Build Thread

I thought he got the OldSchoolSpeed set. With those you don't have a lot of play room with location only pedal positioning dependent on how you set up the linkage lengths.

Thats the ones from OldSchoolSpeed. I do believe they may come with set mounts but have some fab work involved for the rest of the setup similar to may universals from them.

What is the hole I'm pointing to for?

Thanks,

There should be another elbow outlet same as on the other side, to pick up the fuel from the left side of the tank. It should be brazed in their.

Along the tank subject, what exactly are the elbow outlets for exactly?

If you get stuck I have a spare damaged tank here that I can pull one from, you can have for postage cost. Someone might be able to help a bit closer to home but the offers there if you get stuck. ;)

With the hump in the tank to go over the frame of the bike there is no way for the fuel to get to the tap from the left side of the tank, joining these two elbows with some fuel line links both sides of the tank together allowing the fuel to flow from the left to the right where the fuel tap is.
Does this make sense?

Absolutely makes sense, I had a feeling, but figured I'd go ahead and ask anyways. Thank you very much.

Since it was about 50* in Cincinnati today, I spent almost all day working on the bike and made some good progress!

Items done:
- reupholstered seat with OEM style cover.
- polished metal trim pieces for seat
- stripped paint off tank
- began to completely sand tank starting with wire wheel

Original seat in poor condition

Buckles rusted and gross looking
IMAG0868.jpg

Seat pan. Minor rust. Cover hooks into the metal teeth and then the metal trim pieces push everything tightly together.
IMAG0869.jpg

Here you can see how the cover fastens to the seat pan
IMAG0870.jpg

Stock cover off. Foam was luckily in very good condition
IMAG0871.jpg

I had to improvise a bit as some of the metal teeth were broken
IMAG0882.jpg

New cover on. This was the second attempt as the first was very wrinkled and didn't look good. I sat it out in the sun and gave it another go. My wife came out and helped me and it went a lot better

Brushed the metal trim pieces. Brushed on left, before on right.
IMAG0880.jpg

Installing the metal trim was tough because there are 8 small holes that I had to blindly find that are drilled into the seat pan, and then punch through the cover with a small nail. I thought about not using them, but I thought the more original look was nice.

Next up was to strip the old tank to get it ready for small body work and repaint.

Aircraft stripper on!
IMAG0876.jpg

First layer off! Found out that the tank was originally the metallic purple color. Pretty cool.

Enlisted some help! My wife rocks. :)
IMAG0885.jpg

Just about finished! This is where I stopped for the evening.
IMAG0886.jpg

I did discover my tank is missing a fuel guide which lets the gas get to both sides of the tank. I need to find another spout and weld it back to the tank. Pretty disappointing but still a good day of work! Here's the hole that I'm pointing to.

Anywho, that's all for tonight.

I haven't even tried to get her running yet. Next up is to finish off the carb rebuild and figure out wtf to do about my tank. That pisses me off.

Sorry it took me a while to reply after your texts last night. Like I said if you can source a 400F tank, Id do it... or if you really wanted to go this route.

http://benjiescaferacer.com/tank-fiberglass.php <--- YES. However I know youd rather stay on the inexpensive side of things too. Also you can get Clubman bars for a bit cheaper than clip on bars.

Im not sure why you re-upholstered your seat if youre just going to do a cafe seat? but it does look better! :)

Seat turned out awsome, Mad props for getting the wife to help with the caustic stripping. You have powerful persuasion skills my friend. ;D

I didn't see your post on FB until late yesterday. Call me and I will stop by when your ready to hack on the fenders Etc. I pm'd you the number.

Mad is right, you may be much better off finding a new tank than trying to find someone to braze in the piece your missing. However if you got some connections it might not be a big deal if the rest of the tank is in good order.

I may be going to clip ons on my bike. I am looking for a cheap used set. If you are looking at the clubman route I can hook you up cheap and save ya the shipping etc. I should know in the next several weeks at the latest.
