'74 CB360 -- Eos -- and a NEW BIKE!

Re: '74 CB360 -- It Begins -- Berner

It was kind of a rough weekend for the bike...I dug into the motor and decided I wanted to clean the hell out of it so I let the head cover sit in industrial purple degreaser (Home Depots version) over night and for part of the day. I came back to it and it ate away at the metal...All sorts of pitting and discoloring :( bummer. So I've been lookin' for a replacement head cover. Also the same day I found that out I was goin' at the frame with my wire wheel and found a crack on the lower tube :( Hopefully I can find someone to weld it so I feel safe on it once its done.

I've also been doing a lot of thinking about this tank. Originally I was going to fiberglass all around it like CC did on his and cut a filler hole and attempt to dissolve the styro out of it. That brings up problems with sealing petcock, gas cap, and equalizing tubes I plan on putting it. So I now think I'm going to do it in two pieces (at least) so I can get proper seals on those, but I'm not quite sure what the best way to reattach the two parts. I've seen a thread where a spine on the tank is made to put them back together (http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145975&page=4). I've been running ideas through my head and I'm not sure there is an easy way to do it. Any thoughts?

Also, I'm looking for a cool lookin' dual outlet petcock, one that doesn't stick so far down from the tank as the stock one. Has anyone seen anthing cool out there that won't cost me my soul?

Re: '74 CB360 -- It Begins -- Berner

I'm going to have to go on a week long hiatus from my work on the bike... I'm trying to graduate and need to finish end of semester projects and study for exams. So I thought I'd leave you with some slightly updated pictures...

I shaped up the bum stop a little bit, not sure It's symmetrical but, it'll get there.

The tank and seat form look great. Good luck with the school work. Remember, when in doubt always go with "C".

Thanks man, the foam is just your standard styrofoam. i picked it up at home depot for like $3 for a 2" sheet of about 2' x 4' I got 2 of them. If you go that route make sure you use a glue that won't harden too much, I had some trouble with the gorilla glue I used, its tough to cut and sand. I cut it with a hot wire cutter then used a sanding block for fine shaping.

Sorry it's been so long since any updates...I finally have a degree!

I got some carb kits the jets in mine were way too small, something like 65 where stock is 100 or 105 I can' remember. Those are gettin' put in today then more cleaning of the engine so I can lay some paint. I'm gonna try to pick up some clip ons to make sure they clear the tank. Then once the paints on the engine I'll start glassing my seat and tank. I hope to have some good updates near the end of the weak.

Re: '74 CB360 -- It Begins -- Berner

Alright, so I need some advice...

Instead of painting the motor in pieces like I had originally planned I've decided to put it back together then paint it, I figure less masking would make my life easier. Before I do that I need to get all the leftover gasket residue scraped off. First question, is there a good way to do this (products, razor blades, etc.)? Also I want to make sure nothing is in the case that shouldn't be and I want to give it a purple degreaser bath. Second question, is it safe to soak the motor and all gears and transmission pieces in that kind of solution, and for how long?

I have a week before school starts and I really want to get this thing put back together and painted so I can start on my seat and tank!!!!!

I have used a razor blade before you can get the paint sraper kind with handles and such. Just becareful so you dont dig into the metal. I don't know what purple degreaser is but I would assume you should be ok soaking parts in it if it is just a deegreaser. I would becareful about putting anything rubber in there as the chemicals usually react with the rubber parts.

Re: '74 CB360 -- It Begins -- Berner

No real updates have been busy with a new job. Bought new heads and head cover off ebay yesterday.

I also ordered tension slipper and cam chain guide, but I got an email saying they didn't have them in stock. I have been having lots of problems finding these things. Does anyone know where I can get 'em so I can re-assemble the motor when I get my heads and cover in?

Re: '74 CB360 -- It Begins -- Berner

So I wanted to put pics of these up to see what Ya'll thought. Looking at the cam chain guide again it can prolly be used. But the tension slipper looks pretty bad. Just how bad is it? I would normally just throw it away but I can't find a replacement so that wouldn't be a good idea. Can I put this back in?

This is one end of them. Slipper on the left.

:( that makes me sad... I guess I had high hopes of this thing being at least ridable for a little while. Oh Honda. Why do you discontinue this shitty piece of plastic?!

CHECK YOUR PM's!!!!!!

Real quick! I need some help VonYinzer shot me a line with this ebay find. The part number that I have for my tension slipper is different than the one on the auction. The slipper in the auction come from a 76 360T. Mine's a 74 360. I thought they were the same motors but why the different Part no. could it be a new upgraded/non shitty part??

Re: '74 CB360 -- Berner -- Hurry! Quick Question!!

I figured it out the middle section of the parts number is the product code or what bike the part goes to. the last 3 are modifications or updates to that part. I won the auction, although I'm still not happy...I just paid $50 for this...I feel dirty, time for a walk.

Re: '74 CB360 -- Berner -- Hurry! Quick Question!!

Well at least you got the part you needed. even if it was expensive.

Yea, it stings but so does looking at your bike sitting there. Every bike needs an expensive bit, sometimes those parts can't be seen
