'76 cb360 cafe:ROUND 2...third times a charm!

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

got the delete plug today! its a little loose fitting, but being bonded in + the screws, should hold it perfectly/

IMAG1145_zps47dc2acd.jpg

i scuffed the primer on the tank, it had one drippy spot. the drip is gone, and i hit it with a few good coats of high build.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

garage was packed with people and motorcycles today. me, my brother alan, nick, luke, roommate ryan and jesse. alan is new to working on things, but he stated tinkering with his xs850 with ryan and jesse. me and nick cleaned up a few welds and finished a few more on the frame. ill be dropping it off for blasting in the next day or two.

also did a bit of work to the seat pan. the hole is drilled for the flush mount tail light. did a little grinding and did a coat of duraglass. nick went BEAST MODE sanding the tail section for a solid half hr with no break haha. anyway on to the pics

first coat of duraglass

IMAG1221_zpsc9786c56.jpg

after sanding (still has a few low spots)

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

for starters today, dropped the frame off to get blasted and primed. should be done early next week. in the meantime ill keep hammering away on the seat pan for now.

went to nick's to mess with his bike and work on my seat pan there.

another coat of duraglass (ran out of duraglass after this coat, will get more. turned the empty can and turned it in to an ashtray... "duraglashtray")

OOPS!

IMAG1226_zpsec37bee7.jpg

little glue fixed the crack right up

IMAG1227_zpsd6505ded.jpg

after sanding

IMAG1228_zps3a22e4d6.jpg

have hopefully only one more coat of filler on the tail section and then on to the rest of the seat pan

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

moar duraglas!

IMAG1229_zpsd4652469.jpg

bit of sanding, lows marked

IMAG1230_zps69ae7686.jpg

IMAG1231_zps1f67518b.jpg

front where it meets the tank, filed down a bit. still a lower on the right side

IMAG1232_zps9d82f368.jpg

im hoping to do one more duraglas layer on the "butt stop" part of the tail section, and a layer on the part that meets the tank, and the one edge thats low. sand all that down to have the final shape, then do a finial skim coat over the whole thing before sealing it

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

did a bit of sanding the other night. should be able to get it all squared away with one skim coat of light body filler. hoping to have the seat in primer tomorrow.

trying to get the seat and tank painted by the weekend.

frame should be back by tuesday. plans to paint the frame and swing arm (gloss black) also by the weekend.

cut the steering lock off the lower tree. gotta smooth that out tomorrow, along with clean up the lower fork tubes.

ordered a matching kenda challenger tire to the front. my plan is to hopefully have the bike rollin by the weekend. then on to carb work and clean up the motor and get that installed. other than that its clean up/paint lots parts here and there and get everything back together little by little.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

cleaned up the lower forks, before primer/paint.
one down

two down

painted

gonna try and pick up new dust covers tomorrow, along with new tubes for my tires. also have a rear tire on order. should be here thursday. then gotta get bearings yet.

cleaned up the tripple trees as well and painted them

(thats a piece of exhaust i had slid it into to hold it for paint)

lots of sanding on the seat pan. put a few heavy coats of filler primer on. still have a few little pinholes to address.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

frames back from blaster, he didnt end up priming it. saved myself $25 and primed it myself. swing arm is also in primer. lookin like sunday ill be hauling it all to my dads for paint.

seat pan is in its finial stage of primer before paint. i have a buddy making vinyl die cut decals for the tank. he said he will have them ready by the weekend. might be able to paint the tank/seat sunday as well!

parts list update:
F&R tubes- picked up from empire cycle
steering bearings (all balls racing tapered bearings)-ordered from empire cycle. should be here fri/sat
fork dust covers-ordered from hamburg honda. should be here by fri/sat
new rear tire arrives tomorrow.

monday it should be a roller once again!

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

just loosen the triple trees and slide the front end down on the forks. the top of the for tube will stick up out of the top tree.

other news, got the tires mounted/balanced today and picked up the new dust boots for the forks. went to my buddies and got a few paint supplies. got some black sealer/hardner, and the dark charcoal grey for the tank/seat pan. still have to get activator for color, clear/hardner. my dad already has the black for the frame/swing arm. still lookin good for sunday paint day. ill give it till tuesday to put the forks and wheels on. still have lots to clean up etc in the meantime

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

tires!

went to dads today to paint the frame and swing arm. didnt get around to painting the tank and seat yet. still waiting on picking up the decals.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

went outside for a bit after work. started cleaning up the motor with a nylon wire wheel. still have the little tight spots left. im undecided if im going to paint the motor at all or not. any way, before and after pics...

also cleaned up the kick stand real quick and hit it with some paint

got hungry and my backs killin me. came inside for a lil bit. i may head back out to clean up the exhaust and the motor mounts later.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

got my decals done. looks awesome! thanks charles!

whipped up little brackets for my speedo mount

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

paint!paint!paint!

black sealer:

charcoal grey metalic:

decals on:

clear, diff stages:

went pretty well today! sealer and color went over real nice. the first side decal i put on, ended up with a few bubble/lines :(. the second side came out way nicer. lots of LIGHT coats of clear went on, to prevent runs over the decals. we used duplicolor pre-mixed clear. i was kinda sketched by it, but it was only $25 for a qt. and it ended up turning out real nice!

idk why, but some of the pics from lukes phone came out small, and then some big...wish they were all big. dont really feel like resizing them and bluring them

heres the ones off my phone

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

oh yea, leaving em dry for a couple days. borrowed a motorcycle jack and a slide hammer w/bearing puller attachment from my buddy, and ill be doing the steering bearings and putting the frame into a roller tomorrow. maybe sunday or monday ill grab the tank and seat and set em on and snag some more pics

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

thanks dude! i'm super stoked! i can't wait to get em out in the sunlight/set em on the frame :)

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

pulled the old races out. used the master bearing slide hammer with two hooks. came out super easy haha

tossed the front end together (not fully adjusted/tight just yet)

front wheel on

swing arm/rear shocks on

rear wheel

on the kick stand!

tossed the rear sets on for shits and giggles

looks VERY close! my roommate (who is bigger than i am) sat on the bike, rear shocks dont move at all. they are STIFFFFFF

tossed the speedo on as well (still needs paint yet)

front view

then my ma showed up and brought my tank/seat!

seat pan is just set on right now. still has to be mounted/might need a few washers to level it out nice. i plan to put some rubber around the edges so i dont scratch the tank with the seat pan.

i wanna get it so the seat pan, sits flush with the bottom of the rear hoop

then wheeled it out in the sun

im super happy with it thus far! cant wait till shes ready to ride!
