'76 cb360 cafe:ROUND 2...third times a charm!

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

Tank looks real good.
Nice starter plug, it's pretty similar to one of mine and close to what I would make if I had CNC ;)
Tyre isn't going to hit frame?
Shocks look a bit short but seeing what you did to change fitting from eye to clevis it will be easy enough to make any length you need

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

the shocks are an inch shorter than stock. ive put all my weight didnt move at all. my roommate sat on it, bounced up and down, pushed as hard as he could... didnt eve move at all. the shocks are adjustable, height wise and the stiffness. once i get it all together, ill take it for a lap around the block and see how it feels. if needed i can raise it up a bit

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

I went and looked at page one then editied post, you've done some good work
It sounds like the springs are too hard though, should move at least the first inch pretty easy

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

thanks dude! ill deff play with the suspension once the bike is complete. for now, i just wanted it to be able to roll around, garage is packed full of parts/wheels/junk/xs750/xs850/zzr600 etc haha

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

did some things today.

painted motor mount brackets and key mount

as well as the starter delete plug and engine side cover. i plan to sand the cover, leaving only the circle/honda inlay red.

took apart the speedo. PITA

then paint

nick came by to help put the motor in

set the tank/seat/cushion on

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

As of right now I do not have a fender. One didn't come with the bike. I was going to make one using a piece of an old fender. But have decided I will keep my eyes open for a stock one to cut up

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

I think PJ is getting at the fact the front forks need a brace to keep them from twisting while riding. The factory front fender had a pretty strong piece of 3/16" steal under it that kept the front end in line. I have gotten rid of my factroy front fender, but I still use the brace to keep things in check.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

I'm really likeing the way the tank/seat combo is looking on this....

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

i found a fender for $27 shipped. ugliest thing in the world. but for the price i couldnt say no. its gonna be chopped super small and be repainted anyway.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

got the speedo back together after paint. looks pretty good.

the little bit of painting on the motor i decided to do is done.

the rest of the motor still needs a finial polish, to remove the sand marks/scratches

started mocking up the controls/levers/headlight etc,,

i still dont like where how the headlight is far away. im going to try and make a mount for the speedo to bring it down more and split the difference between the headlight and the top tree.

then did the rear turns. they sit a little up at the ends because of the curve in the seat pan.

another shot with the headlight in and the visor. still have to paint the headlight bucket/ears/visor

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

Its really lookin nice.
So, she was already runnin good when you brought her home?

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

Yea, it would start in 2/3 kicks. Idled nice. Didn't ride it because it was winter when I picked it up. Hopefully I can dial it in once I clean/rebuild the carbs. Suggestions on jetting anyone? Running pods/no mufflers

you really wont know what kind of jetting is required til you get to ride it some.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

without muffler (just head pipes) you'll probably need 115 and up on secondary main jets.
Problem is, when you do that the transition from primary to secondary mains is so rich it will rich missfire
Also, 360's really don't like short pipes

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

didnt like the headlight ears i bought from DCC. they were straight and long. i grabbed a set gennaro had kickin around from his cb550 and put them on. they have a bit of an angle and are a little shorter, bringing the headlight in closer. it looks alot better now. test fit before paint.

made this little guy for the linkage from the brake pedal to go to. its welded to the washer that was already there with the straight edges.

end of the screw driver is where the other end on the linkage goes. you can see it will need a slight bend once i make the linkage.

just a piece of shelving for mock up. the rubber band behind, is where a return spring will be for the brake pedal.

cleaned up the front brake caliper and painted it.

cleaned up and painted the exhaust with heat primer/heat flat black. it will be wrapped, leaving the turn down being the only part not wrapped. staying black.

painted the flanges red

a friend gave me some piso's from the Philippines. the 1 piso fits perfectly in the triple tree. i set one up, and one down

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

Been a while since the last update. here's a few things.

headlight bucket and ears painted

here is the ugly fender that i bought off ebay for $27

chopped it down. it sits really high above the tire. i'm not too worried about it for now. painted it black and threw it on.

shift linkage

brake linkage

few newer photos

quick video. no adjustments have been made to the carbs. i need a new throttle cable, its a little sticky and its too long with the clip ons.

i took it for a ride up and down the street, deff coming along.

also did the F/R brakes the other day.

things still i still need to do:
-adjust carbs
-check/adjust valves/timing/points gap
-front ss brake hose with banjo brake switch (should be here by wed.)
-mount seat
-wrap exhaust

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

got the brake line and banjo switch in today. i will get out to the garage later today and put it all together.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

brake line and switch installed. picked up some brake fluid, but had to go help a buddy with his charging issue on his cb550. i'll fill/bleed the brake tomorrow.

i still have to connect the brake switch yet. the switch came with spade connectors, and the bikes harness is bullet connectors.

Re: '76 cb360 cafe

i put these shocks on from Gennaro's bike. deff softer than my shocks. i haven't taken it for a ride yet, i need a few washers for spacers.

today I picked up a green led to put in my speedo for a neutral light.

i used the wiring off the stock neutral light. then started to disassemble the speedo once again...PITA. i needed to change a bulb in there anyway.

marked a hole. i had to put it toward the edge to avoid hitting the odo reel.

in place

back together
