Don't worry about surface rust dusting the cylinders, just conditioning them, it's how they opened the surface on race motors before flex hones were invented

Im afraid Rachel will never leave me...Im her trophy husband. LOL

Anyway after a bunch of wiping w a clean dry rag...turned out pretty nice. I WAS REALLY WORRIED FOR A MINUTE !
cleanjugs.jpg

I pulled em on and off 3 times...I kept hearing weird pops and stuff...I thought I was snapping rings. but nope no rings were cracked unless I did it on the last push. I thought it would would be a terror installing these dry. It was not easy fun...kind of a "B". But the install wasnt that bad.
I did remember to oil skirts.

AND FINALLY. I did remember the new big O-rings around cylinders...not fun. and ALL the little metal guide things around studs (except the two on case w oil holes) and even the two new rubber gaskets on the Head ones!!! Just need to get fetch the torque for head bolts and BAM!

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Got head bolts torqued properly.

Im gonna give up one of PJs secrets.
When I found the head on Ebay. The same guy also had a set of cam chain tensioners listed.
I waited until it was about to expire. I emailed the guy and told him if he knocked $50 bucks off the head AND threw in the tensioners for FREE I would buy it.
HE DID IT!!!
The tensioners have nearly zero wear. (left) My originals are chewed to hell. (right)
Thanks PJ

Also, today I found in the cam bearing on head cover. Honda did cut a channel like I was considering doing in the Head side. Just call me Mr. Obvious! LOL

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

side play in cam. The book says "check it" but its not really clear on how to check it. So, this is what i did.
tolerance is, .003 - .012 inches.
Mine is coming in between .009, the .010 was snug to shove in. Hooray!

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

HA! I knew if I started kicking my feet like a dancing crazy person and didnt stop for 5 minutes, a spot for the bike would open up.

Make sure to install the (removable) right front lower engine mount to engine before you shove it in frame. You can install it after but believe me its a little bitch.

This is now starting to get exciting.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

I cant believe you work like that either.

Good thing is......your working. ;D

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Got the head cover on. I forgot to fill the bowls w oil.
If I pour oil in through the two holes under breather cap, what are the chances its gonna make it into the bowls?
Or I could use a squirt can through the valve adj caps.
Or, should I just pull it off in the morning, fill and re-fit?

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Pop the valve adjustment caps off, FIND an oil can and pump them full. OR use a long piece of tube full of oil and use the straw method. Easy peasey.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

I wouldn't pull the cover off, if you used the ZDDP grease on cam bearings and rockers, just spin it over until the oil gets up there (doesn't take long, 6~7 good kicks with plugs out)

BTW, you need some shelving to get all the small stuff off the floor, then you can fill the floor up with a lot more stuff ;)

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Just for shits, what the heck is the orange thing in the back ground, with the silver bottom?

+1 on the shelves, even the cheap plastic ones are nice to have around.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

THANKS GUYS! I wanted absolute proof I was getting oil up there. So, I kinda used PJs method. 2 qts in case. I used the drill to run it. I fished a long plastic wire tie into both bowls through front inspection holes. I STRUCK OIL! In both bowls. SWEET! Didnt take long w drill..but at 430 a.m. it woulda taken enough kicks to wear me out and piss me off.

I should be ready to fire her up here pretty soon...
exhaust, carbs, gas tank...I think.

HA! Thats my 1967 Mustang GTA convertible, 289 factory 4 bbl. Bought it just after my daughter was born. 16 years ago. its about 80% complete. I had to stop working on her. I worked out of town for 15 years. staying in hotels. a new baby at home. I just didnt have the time.
This Honda was supposed to be the "Little" fun project to get me primed up and ready to finish the Mustang!!!
You can see how that idea is working out. LOL. It will come w time.
The Mustang is on a rotisserie, thats the floor pans your looking at.

Should be something like this when done...Im doing Black on Gold aslo.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Cool, can't watch vid but I know what 360's sound like ;)
Now you can take it out, beat it up, see if it's quicker than 400f and hopefully not break it again for a few months ;D
The 4 -R's.........

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

that kind of "beating yourself down" attitude will get you absolutely nothing. Lets see, my 16 yr old daughter requires minimal care and maintenance, I didnt move into a new home. married 20 years...so wife doesnt waste a lot of time talking to me. etc, etc. Other than work, naps, food, sex and sleep. I pretty much get unlimited bike time.

And I love your new A/C unit. I dont understand how people didnt get that as a joke! Sometimes people seem really weird to me. ZERO sense of humor. If you take life that serious...somethings gonna break.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Got timing set and checked carb sync. went for a ride bout 2 miles. didnt get over 6000 rpms, she ran real nice. There might be a small difference. But nothing drastic. I am delighted. The clutch is a little stiffer w the new springs.

Hmmm, I cant put my finger on it...but she seems to be missing something! Shes a real plain jane w that crappy looking motor!
