I have been considering that as well Rich, I have new rings sitting in the parts stack at the moment.
The problem with that is that the 8 valve was only made for 3 years before it was replace with the 16 valve TSCC engine, which has a 2mm larger bore.
With that said the price of a .5mm setup is around the same as a new cylinder set.
Well surprisingly the offer I made got accepted, so looks like I will be getting the 1mm OS. GS772 has a nicer sound than GS760. Once the parts arrive from Germany I can get stuck in.
That is what I thought to begin with, but after you have a look and linkages, mounting plates, adaptors it all adds up. I think the Tarozzi kit is the best for the money as it comes with everything.
I decided it was time to get off my arse and pull the forks and swingarm apart further before I have to head to work this arvo.
I am waiting on the pistons and rings to come along with the timing chain and cash to have the bore done. After that I should be able to get the engine finished up fairly quickly.
Here are some pictures that I forgot to post earlier. The first is the difference between the bent shift shaft and the replacement, even thought it is still slightly bent.
Brodie, that tank will look great once it's fitted to the frame.
Are you keeping the spoke wheels and / or updating the forks? Before you make any commitments on that, let me know. I've been doing a LOT of research into Suzuki front ends lately.

Thanks Rich, the tank is going to need quite a bit of "tunnel massaging" to get it to fit. I am just not sure where to start, I think a decent metal shaping hammer might be the go.
Ohh I will be keeping the rims, not letting go of those for anything. I am planning to keep the original forks but swap on a Kawazaki ZX6 twin pot caliper to the front.

You need to redo the spokes and keep them. Nothing like a new looking set of spokes.
LIKE YOUR THREAD A LOT BRODIE!
I have soon collected all the parts for my Gs as well, just waiting for some new bearings to do the frontend swap and the seat from the "leatherman".
Nice to see guys doing suki`s
Alright so I made a list at the start of the thread. I just thought I would update it with things that are done, things that have changed and things I now plan to do. So here it is

After that it will be all the standard "go fast" stuff.
Dyna S electronic ignition. Done
Dynatek 3ohm coils Done
Roc City Cafe "Manx" seat To small, looking at a Roadracer now
Stretched tank. Going to use a TR1 tank
cewell 2853 Gauge Done
Rear sets. I will order a set of Tarozzi soon
Clubmans Done
K&N filters Going to use the stock box with a K&N filter now
4 to 1 exhaust Working on it
swingarm mounted fender No where near this stage.
Small LED indicators Have some, they look crap
Small LED tail light No where near this stage.
New sprockets and chain. See above
Now that is done what I plan to do is:
ZX6 front caliper
1mm over bore to 772cc
Paint frame red.
Pant tank and seat gun metal gray
New rear master
New front master
Build wiring harness
I told him to set the thing on fire and the bugger never mentioned he had an acetylene torch until about a week of bashing! Would have saved a lot of work there, BRO-dee!
Good to see that things are finally going back together. Hell, how did you get that shifter out!?
That sleek tank is the biz, mate. I hope the paint doesn't disappoint
Ha I didn't have a torch till I got sick of beating on the piston. I was cheap and it is only propane. I am going to try and cook a steak with it soon.
That tank is immaculate and I nearly feel bad beating it to fit. It didn't have a dent till I bought it.
Ohh and as for the shifter, the cases are a bit worn but a new seal fixed that.
Ohh and thanks Patak. Not many Aussies left alone Gold Coasters on here.
My timing chain, Dyantek S, Dyantek coils and 1mm OS pistons arrived today. Talk about an early christmas. So now I am just waiting on piston rings and the new charging setup and I can get the engine back together.
I do have some bad news though. It looks like the GS will go on the back burner for a little as I am picking up a new project on friday. A new boat that is in need of a lot of work. Free is always good though.
This means that I should be able to fix it up and sell my old boat to gain a bit of cash, which of course will mean parts for the GS.
Great build so far! I'm in the middle of my 80 GS750E build and I'm almost to the point of tackling the engine so I'm learning a lot with your thread. I basically had my bike 2 days before I tore it down and the only problem that I saw was that it was hard to switch gears using the toe shifter. The bike did sit since 05 so the oil was really old so it may just needed to be worked through some. Any recommendations of what I should do since the motor will be pulled? Gaskets all around? Also, do you know if the 78 gas tank would need much modification for my bike? I hear the rear end is a little different. I'm 50/50 on using my tank at this point and like the type of the 78. And just to let you know I have zero experience working on engines.
Thanks and if you interested check out my build below.
My build thread:

Definitely gaskets, replace all of them whist you are in there. Whist you have it that far apart I would replace the timing chain and get they cylinders honed. Also get the valves cleaned.
As for the tank, as far as I can see any GS750 tank will fit on a GS750. The newer models have a fuel sender that can be handy if you are after that. I know that the 850 bolt on differently. As with any aftermarket tank you will need to do some degree of modification to make it fit.
Also considering you have "zero experience working on engines" it might be wise just to keep the gearbox together and only delve as far as the clutch. Not to say you don't have the skill but it can be very daunting and a lot of projects stop at an open engine.
I signed up to your thread, I quite like the colour you have used for your frame and may just have to copy that haha. Keep it up mate.
I have been slack with updating this thread as I have been working my arse off and any spare time I had I was putting into the boat. I am skint at the moment and am working my arse off at the same time, bloody end of year time always leaves me with empty pockets.
Anyway whilst I have been slacking off on the bike lots of parts have been turning up at my door. So the list of to do is getting bigger. I have everything I need to get the motor back together and running.
Here are the parts just waiting to be shoved into the cases.
Electrosport Stator and Rec/Reg
NOS +1mm Pistons with rings
Dynatek S Igniton
Dynatek Green Coils
D.I.D Timing chain
All that needs to be done to the engine is cylinder bore and a clean up on the head. After that she should be ready to pur.
